Also yeah, this. US-centrism much? The amount of German and French players cannot be underestimated. Sure, a lot of them speak English, but on further investigation, a lot of them also don't. Idk why USians think that, because they are many, everyone else needs to cater to them.

But that's because nearly everyone speaks American. Even the English now speak American
Idk why I took until now to realize that Gurgeh is a troll. No non-troll who isn't a redneck republican would unironically call it American.

    According to Ethnologue

There is 390 million native english speakers and 1138 million if you count it as a secondary language

There is 124 million native japanese speakers, and only 2 million as secondary language

The entirety of NA, EU and Materia data centers understand english to some capacity, it makes sense to hire a translator. English is as close as it gets to a "common tongue" worldwide.

Im from South America, I speak english as my second language, my Italian partner and my French friend also do speak english, because its the most worldwide spoken language

Not sure where the US-centrism comes from. Im not from the US but would aprecciate english (Hell, I can even translate from english to spanish for my friends, but not from Japanese)

Yeah, and I can translate from Japanese to any of the other three supported languages (with varying levels of proficiency). Your point? English TL is nice, but nobody is entitled to it. It's convenient, but SE is a Japanese company and live TL is very, very exhausting when you do it orally in a non-scripted context, that's why being an interpreter is an actual job. Asking for it is fine, throwing a tantrum like Gurgeh did is not.

    O.o

I'm from the US. What language here is "American"?

Probably more than whatever translation process gave us Phantom Job actions that "scale with item level" (spoiler: it's not actually the thing labeled "item level" on every piece of gear in the game).

You need someone with knowledge of both the languages and the game.

My apologies for mixing up, I was mostly adressing the message

Point was English is easier to translate from as more people understand it, far beyond the 4 supported languages. With Japanese as the only broadcasted language, not only less people can "enjoy" the Live letter, but also we feel like second class citizens when we all pay the same

A far, FAR smaller JP game, PSO2:NGS do their Dev streams as a News broadcast, in the JP channel, in their native language, in the Global channel, dubbed on english. With a game as big as FF14 and with our ammount of english speakers, it is just a bad look for SE to not have a english translation

But anyways, its not that deep, it just sucks to sit there reading the notes in the livestream and watch how they talk for 10 minutes before changing slide

Not having a protocol droid translate for you in real time is just a skill issue.

When the leaders of your community have stripped you of all you've ever worked for to cover up lies. When they've slandered your name until your business collapses leaving you to figure out how the hell to put food on the table. When your leaders label you as a possible terrorist because you stood up for your rights and didn't let some stuck up tyrant in a suit tell you that you're property. The weight is mounting on top of the ladder, when bottom falls out so will the fear and then there will be nothing left to do but burn corpo shit and let them rot in what they have created.
