It may be of lower graphical quality but the world looks more alive and interesting. i.e. FFXI. Also I like the idea of stepping into Ul'dah and actually seeing a bajillion people running around.
They said they were going to reduce quality to allow more people to play it. But by doing so, they relied on tricks to make the game actually look better in some aspects, such as Lightning and shadows.
So instead of having a powerful graphically intensive game that abuses a lot of shine and bloom effects, they did good ol' fashioned practical effects. And you know what? The game actually looks BETTER overall as a result.
Individual models may be of a slightly lower poly count for performance reasons. However, the world in general will (and does, so far) look much better thanks to the more varied terrain and architecture, the new lighting system, and so forth.
Higher graphics quality does not always mean better looking.

Well my opinion.. on this picture for example the graphics look great.. nice lightning.. MUCH MUCH more small details than we have ever now.:
then i look at this picture and i think.. this should be final fantasy style? this cathedral reminds me a bit of Warhammer Online (no not WoW -.- )
well we have to see how it will look in action.
I think 2.0 looks way better than 1.0.
