You are going to see a huge improvement.
and less lags

You need an eye check, you can CLEARLY see that 2.0 destroys 1.0 graphics.
If pigs can really fly, I wouldn't care about anything else!!!

1.0 Graphics are like Super Mario Bros.
2.0 Graphics are like Super Mario Bros 3
Same system.
Better optimisation.
Better art design.

Make it happen.

This is a good way to put it. Graphically one doesn't seem superior to another. I will still say 2.0 looks better because of the shadow and texture quality and the environments look more engaging and not bland.

From the interviews with Yoshi, I thought it was basically this:
1) Looks good on low end machines, through optimization, controlling the number rendered NPC's, tricks to make something appear more detailed than it is.
2) High End Machines - OMFG, and OMFG look at all the NPC's I can render at the same time.
Make sure to save up some $$$ and grab yourself a 27" 2560X1440 Monitor.

I vividly recall somewhere Yoshi or someone else mentioning that the gfx engine was being redone so that it would run better on a wider variety of hardware, however, at it's highest settings would actually be more demanding than 1.X.
Kinda screams dx11 to me...
