In From The Cold gave us something to do outside talking with npc. I think one of the many reasons why dawntrail quests were so boring, is because the developers took the feedback from the complainers and. used it.
Having to play a class that you don't like just to access another class isn't fun, so I'd not want this system to exist.
Yeah let's not bring back cross class skills. I remember the hate I got as a white mage not having swiftcast because I didn't like thaumaturge and having that class stuck at 26 until Shadowbringers when the amaro mount came out.
I level everything now *by choice* and that's the important part of the equation. I've found I quite enjoy BLM now, though I haven't tried the newest version. But I shunned it for years because of the harassment I got because I didn't want to level it. And this was before you could get to 26 in a night. It took a bit of effort to get those classes up to 30 then.
They created the role action system specifically because the cross class system was the illusion of choice. There were actions you were absolutely going to take and the community didn't give you a choice in it. Those community required class skills just turned into the role actions.
I like the Idea very much, I have always wanted a mix of Paladin and dragoon to have the combo Halone uses, Shield and Spear
Plus, just like in older FF games, having your character specialize on different areas makes the Payout feel great
As a side note, they already said a few times Necromancer is off the table because of its "evil" connotations of raising the dead
This has been something I have wished as well, having a Ranger version of Bard, or a Non-ninja version of Rogue (Thief in OC?), with the 2-for-1 leveling deal Summoner and Arcanist have
I would go as far as to say that if those jobs were Roulette-limited (no ult or savage) I would still be extremely happy. In a sea of stagnation what the game needs is some fresh ideas and trying out new things
Unfortunately with SE's track record, we can expect them to do nothing because developing costs money, and they are more worried about Making Foamstars 2 or something
Cross class would be interesting if they are a collection of classes that can stand on their own without the help of the system itself to do their primary duties. It becomes ‘unfun’ when for whatever reason they lock crucial, key abilities such as Swiftcast, Provoke, and Rampart behind the system at that period of time.
Think of them like Lost Actions in all StQ content except DRS. Yes you can just ignore them. Your job still functions good enough for their primary duty because they technically don’t need those. But therein lies the potential for mix matching, opti, or just straight up getting silly without interfering the important part.
