    Ultimate classes

I have been thinking i know with the new occult patch they introduced classes such as Time mage, berserker, geomancer, oracle and etc. so I was thinking why not merge classes like Dark knight and Black mage to make Necromancer, Warrior and viper to Berserker, Astro and red mage to time mage, Geomancer would combine White mage with pictomancer but to unlock the ultimate skills make a pre-req to where you have to have the two classes at level cap to switch to the ultimate class kind of back to the original roots of having to level 2 classes to a certain level in order to unlock the advanced job classes

This would force players to level other jobs, just so they can have access to the new skills. Players would exclude someone for not having x or y skills. This has already happend in the past when we could take class skills and use them on other ones. I remember players excluding healers without swift cast.

I level them all and I like this idea, but SE is not going to do this.

    We used to have this:

    Gladiator+Conjurer = Paladin
    Marauder+Gladiator = Warrior
    Pugilist+Lancer = Monk
    Lancer+Marauder = Dragoon
    Archer+Pugilist = Bard
    Conjurer+Arcanist = White Mage
    Thaumaturge+Arcanist = Black Mage
    Arcanist+Thaumaturge = Summoner
    Arcanist+Conjurer = Scholar
    Rogue+Pugilist = Ninja

It was a tedious chore to level an unrelated class to unlock the job you actually wanted. It was good in that it got you to try other classes, but often they were just not what you were interested in. It was enough to put people off the game or come across complicated or confusing.

Over time, SE removed a lot of pointless or tedious things like that, and doesn't even make classes anymore.

It is a bit annoying to me that SE had to shelves neat concept/system in order to not piss off some portion of the playerbase who's too lazy to level up jobs, even though it is super easy already with how generous the EXP is from leveling roulette.

They really don't want people to feel inconvenienced.

If SE is motivated by a desire to not piss off some portion of the player base, they are failing even more spectacularly than I thought.

I would suggest the opposite - rather than having two jobs lead to one, it would overall be better (not ideal) to have one job fork into two specializations. This would prevent the Heavensward sub job issues and missing skills.

On the flipside, offering a 2-way fork for specialization doesn't automatically make it great. Illusion of choice will occur due to the game's design philosophy making more damage generally the best option.

It can work, but it needs to be handled with extreme care... which I do not trust them to do well given track records.

Oh but they already are for years lol. I argue that "streamlining" jobs during ShB is an example of that (for example, completely changed how AST card works because some crybabies can't handle not winning RNG all the time). Also when they relent and nerfed In From the Cold. Oh, and TG Cid fight as well.

Seem to recall they only nerfed the very easy mode of In From The Cold, which was a rare and much-needed response to feedback.

In From The Cold should be skippable, not because it's hard but because it's one of the worst quests ever of all time.

Also, don't forget that you also needed to level a 3rd Job for cross-class skills, the system that eventually became the role actions.
