OC is a soulless cash grab designed for sub retention and is not fun

I think the basis of OC is fine. The issue comes into play with how Forked Tower is, and how everything seems pointless if you can't get in there (or don't want to, which understandable with how it is). Once I got the 500 fates and 500 ce achievements, I felt like I was there scratching my head going "now what?".

Almost every single one of OC’s systems lose their incentives when forked becomes too annoying to get into

Gold is really only used for gear upgrades, overworld chests are really only used for aetherspun gold and phantom job mastery stacking is just for extra damage

Everything wants you to go into forked but forked is pointlessly inaccessible

It's just more of the same. The same kill X number of mobs or kill one big mob FATEs. They really need to find something new. A way to spice up FATEs because it is actually pathetic how they just keep copy pasting this slop.

The shame is definitely that they would release something that was so obviously going to 'fail' to keep people subscribed. That is the point that every critical post is ultimately making.
14/15 players would have discarded the whole ciphers idea the moment it was mentioned. At most "who is this content for? Super casuals? No? Nope! Never going to get enough interest for bidding. Other ideas?"
How ciphers didn't get discarded immediately is utterly confounding.
This is not just a hindsight thing, it was obviously a bad idea. I might be being generous to say that 1/15 of us players would think it would be a good idea.

It was a little awkward seeing that there was a bigger player count spike for cosmic exploration then there was for OC according to the steam figures.

I can't help but wonder if the former turning out to just be a glorified levequest grind just made people jaded enough to not want to bother with the latter.

I think this is correct.

Having waited for ages for something to do, many people rushed to Cosmic Exploration. Most were not impressed.

Finding OC was similarly underwhelming (and in the case of FT completely awful) has crossed a line.

If you are looking for 'quality content' in a grind, then you are at the wrong spot.

Perhaps try gachas, at least the artwork's pretty. Until you have to do the same mission a 100 times to get a chance to roll for your roster.
