The problem isn't the amount each activity gives.
The problem is gold farming is just infinitely more boring than silver.

Yeah this is the problem. I get why they do it; the entire conceit of these zones initially was let's make some content that appeals to the lunatics who played EQ/FF11 and in those games, going off somewhere to camp mobs was the thing to do. I spent my time in those mines and I really don't want to go back for any reason. I didn't want to chain mobs to spawn nms in Eureka (and I didn't). I didn't want to farm crystals in bozja, but I did it anyway like a fool. And I didn't want to farm enough gold to clear out the cash shop here, but I still did because I remain a fool.
SE just knock it off with the trash grinding already.
I actually think the amount each activity gives is very important here. In 2 hours of gold farming, you can buy out a very large portion of the gold shop. To purchase a single set(not even +1) of gear from the silver chop requires 3-4x that. That's 6-8 hours of farming the exact same fates and ces on repeat. Are the CE's overall more fun than trading invulns and pressing cannoner on mobs? The first 5 or so times sure, but then you realize you have over a 100 more to go. Nothing in the world, especially nothing as mind numbingly repeptitive as farming fates/ces is, remains fun over the period of time that you currently need to spend on it. Meanwhile by the time the novelty of omegaluling on max level mobs in an 8 man war/cannoneer party ends, I'm over halfway done on the gold grind, pushing through to finish it is closer to a victory lap than anything else. But silver? Frankly it's not worth the time. I'll wait for them to increase amount of silver gained or slash prices on the silver vendor items. If neither of those things happen then it'll just make the decision to renew my sub or not easier to make.
Ehh, they're both rather boring imo
Between the two I actually prefer gold farming because I can hop in for an hour and make reasonable progress, whether it's with a WAR party or solo. Silver farming is fighting the same bloated CE for the 1000000000000th time. Both lack any sort of variety, which is my main complaint about OC. It's the worst type of grind designed to somehow keep this content alive for a full year.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
CEs should just award a small amount of gold along with the normal silver. That way there are multiple options.
Gold farming massively favors solo tanks or groups with high amounts of tanks at max level. It's very unfriendly to mixed level parties that aren't 8 people. I was trying to gold farm a bit with some friends with myself at 20 and another 20, one 16, and one 12 to get the gold bought jobs. We did balanced party and had to hit level 18 mobs because we couldn't even get gold from anything lower. And the level 12 and even the 16 weren't helping as much on level 18 mobs. Level sync was a good idea but they should have people actually be able to *do* things and be rewarded for it when they use it.

I do play tank lol (also, tank is far from the cool kids considering it's the easiest role). Idk why you keep missing the point. It's just boring when the meta strat is once again "go WAR, invulns the mob, self heal, repeat". I guess they try to shake things up with the phantom jobs, but aside from canoneer and thief (and maybe oracle with the starfall), the rest aren't relevant for gold farming.
Imo Supersnow845 suggestion is very nice. Would be interesting if gold farm is more influenced by the phantom jobs effect. Better if Freelancer has customizable cross skills from mastered phantom jobs, which encourage people to level them all. Yes, I understand that eventually there will be the Meta-est Strat, but idk, at least there will be more options and probably more fun.
Starfall and comet both do considerable chunks of damage to the mobs. I’ve been in a party where the invuln wasn’t needed when seraphism was up, I’ve been in single pulling parties circling the ziggurat peak. If the arquebus gear augmented defence (as with the blue rays and elemental wheel) I think the accepted strategies wouldn’t be as narrow. Steal not being aoe vs mug doesn’t help it feel like it’s taking as much advantage of the phantom jobs as it could - but I also don’t think every job having a way to increase gold drops would solve this either. Interactions would be preferable - bell stacks increasing the amount stolen by thf/angrybird raising the amount that can be dropped/silver ball converting x gold to silver etc.
I also suspect that the annihilation of all value from coffer drops has in part funnelled people towards gold farming for the marketboardable 2b legs2 and the cool coat since there’s few other ways to make gil in OC.
I opened this thread mostly because to buy gear that kinda works outside and is probably bis in OC you need the silver pieces.
But you also need them to buy the upgrade materials which is 3600 pieces total each piece (almost doubling its price).
And! You can use it to buy some glamour items and occult potions / coffers for chemist / samurai, and don't forget the ciphers!
I remember that in Bozja, once you could do CLL, you'd get a good amount of bronze coins, used only for gear. Sure, it was a real grind if you wanted to augment that to get stronger, but that currency wasn't used for almost everything you needed.
I think if it's silver for a LOT of stuff, we should get way more
honestly I join gold group in the OC itself most just yolo but I do agree that CE should give 50 gold at least because well I need to grind those for the last 3 PH job x)
I did a 6 WAR 2 Healer / 8 Cannoneer gold farm PT over the weekend. It was all "new players" to gold farming, except for maybe 1. Once we got into a cadence, it was absurd. I'd be willing to try other options so I don't have to get in a party with 8 people. My main issue with a full party is that it seems like no one is able to put aside more than 20 minutes to farm gold. I know we all have life responsibilities, but maybe if you don't have more than 20 minutes, go do your roulettes or something that is easily timeboxed. This situation reminds of FFXI parties back in the early 00s. Spend time putting a party together, get where you have to go, then who needs to leave to see their girlfriend, who's cat is on fire, who has ICE at the door, who's toes are cold, etc.
