I agree that the CLL/Dal model would be better. SE clearly intends for the content to be done by pickup groups in the zone with the way the entry system works but that's just not how players enjoy tackling content with a high chance of failure.
I don't really think of that as accessibility. Time will make it easier for those discords to get reclears, sure. And there will be new players who will get clears, with the help of those discords. But in general, the casual/midcore player base will not touch FT and time will do nothing for their accessibility.

I know this isn't completely accurate but, within FFXIV Collect, I think it's somewhat representative:
We're On Your Side I - Clear the Baldesion Arsenal - 16% owned.
Queen Of Swords I - Clear Delubrum Reginae - 53% owned.
Savage Queen Of Swords I - Clear Delubrum Reginae (Savage) - 8.8% owned.

FT is yet another content for a minority of the player base and, short of CBU3 completely redesigning it - entry requirements, how it spawns, mechanics inside requiring certain jobs, nothing about it will make it accessible to the wider players.

I do feel that it is likely intended to get more accessible over time. Future phantom jobs will help by letting players grind more mastery stacks and may have helpful skills that make the fights easier. Future gear may be released that is stronger than the sets currently available and powercreep the content further.

I haven't run FT yet, but it sounds like the biggest issue is there are more mechanics that can wipe the whole raid if someone does them wrong whereas BA and DRS were mostly personal responsibility mechanics with a few key people needing to do dispels and reflects and such.
This is like square enix community worker who does not play the game and tries to branch out into "ummm maybe you just guys get more phantom jobs my company will release in 7.3456 for you, just wait out".

You will not be able to outlevel with rays a random who can simply do screw you and kill entire raid on purpose.

You can grief people easily and the only gms can do about you is to pat on shoulder "thanks for ruining gameplay for 47 other people", we got you.
