DT society quests are so boring

When I finished the loporrit and the omicron quests, I felt like I had experienced something great. I felt feelings. The writing was so good for those! The DT ones have no conflict, no interesting character growth, no story worth following.

We want to open a travel agency... yay we did it! We want to grow vegetables... yay we did it!

I went back and finished the HW ones I missed my first time through the game and even those have stories that are so much better than the DT ones. It makes me sad, I usually love the society quests but I can't find a way to care too much about these ones. The lore they added with the new mount is cool but that doesn't make the story good.

I feel this way too, but the big point to me is the mundanity of it, Omicron and Loporrit are extremely fantastical, but Arkasodara was even bellow than Mamool Ja to me, and the only one from Shadowbringers that I genuinely loved was Pixies, with me outright hating Qitari, I really feel we need more fantastical minor races, where as all the DT races are "they are just guys but they look different".

the mamook quests arent doing any favors for the mamool ja lol. really gonna sit there and tell us that they had zero notion to try artificial sunlight before and they had to go to the alexandrians to get that idea? esp when it's apparently so easy to do that the autarch just goes 'yeah we can do that' with the extremely easily resolved caveat of needing an energy source?

They're incredibly mundane and there's no conflict. Any semblance of tension is resolved immediately. The kind of ideal civilization that Alphinaud tried and horrifically failed to build in ARR was evidently sitting on the other side of the ocean the entire time.

Okay this is also not what the questline was saying, it's a huge explicit thing that the lack of sunlight wasn't ever a problem until then because plants native to Yak T'el can handle the lack of sunlight or are simply tall enough to reach it anyway, the aethetic imbalance caused by the meteor fragments were, and it made literally impossible to grow anything but bananas, only with Anggir's assistance that they even have access to crops that could grow at all, and because those crops she is bringing in are foreign to Tural, the issue of sunlight never came up at all, it's a completely new issue for them.

How easy it is to solve that problem, by the Autarch going "Oh, yeah, I can just do that", may be a problem, but you are making it sound like the Mamool Ja were sitting there for centuries going "damn if only we had some sunlight..."

The travel agency had no conflict or really any problem to solve, we won over the bandits immediately and the rest is just talking to tourists. I can tell the Mammool Ja quests are really more about mending fences than plants, which is fine, but again the Autarch is just instantly on board to help so again there's no friction at all. I'm not saying they're bad stories but they are certainly unlike previous society quests.

There can be good stories with little to no conflict, but I would not consider these to fit that. They do not have the character writing needed for a slice of life kind of story, there is no question being asked for a philosophical story, there is no real analysis of anything, there are only the faintest attempts at developing the setting, etc. There's a stated goal at the beginning and it just sort of happens with no real visible effort on anyone's part.

To be fair, they were religious zealots who shunned outsiders and that includes knowledge when all they cared about was the blessed siblings. This would include the Sharlayan knowledge on the plants that can grow there. The Momool Ja in Mamook were living in the dark ages per say until we came along and changed their ways.

This one really left me speechless.
All the background we learn in DT about the Mamook is that they aren't bad people, just totally frustrated living in the dark on a strict banana diet for centuries. Constant warmongering, Blessed Siblings, even fierce mercenaries swarming out to attack Eorzea - everything is related to this background.
And then they brush it all away in one sentence: "Hey Autarch, can you summon us some daylight lamps, so we can plant whatever nice food we want? - Sure, why not."
It's moments like this where I ask myself if CBU3 really means what they tell us - or if it's rather an abbreviation for "creatively bancrupt unit 3".
