Separate the Item Slot Limit from the Interior Size

After YoshiP mentioned it would technically be possible to simply change the size of your house interior when you enter it (considering it is simply an instance), everyone knows all of us would change to a mansion as soon as it happens. No one would stay with a medium or small interior when they can get all the space in the world + 400 item slots (or more, if they go through with their promise to increase the slot limit)

My suggestion is simple, make two separate systems:

Interior Size & Item Slot Limit

Both of these systems would be accessed in a similar way to how we change our interior design, except it would cost gil as YoshiP suggested in the LL. Whether it costs gil to change every time or it's a one-time purchase is not really important to me, personally. The point is that this way, people can make use of the different housing layouts while not feeling restricted by the item limit tied to them, and thus you would see more variation in the houses you can visit when you go around the neighborhoods.

I personally would love this because I bought a medium house, I love it, I don't want a personal mansion, but I do want more slots for it. I understand that the item slot limit is there to make mansions the more desirable option, but if you're going to let every cottage be a mansion inside, what stops you from allowing us to spend our gil on the item slot limit itself?

I hope you're not expecting a super high increase to the item limit because if you are... you're probably going to end up disappointed.

Infrastructure limitations, PS4 holding the game back etc.

Probably gonna be something modest like 50 / 100 / 150 or 100 / 150 / 200 at best.

300 would be enough for me. That'd already be double the size for my medium home. Though having the 400 of a large + 300 from item increase would be amazing for me.
I don't think they community will be happy if it's anything less than double the current limit... let's hope we get news in the coming LL.

I think your numbers are slightly off... Mediums have a 300 items limit and Larges have a 400 items limit.

Still, a 200 item limit WOULD be a nice increase. Though I'd much rather see a minimum of doubling that and ideally something closer to 300 / 400 / 800 / 1,200 or better across the board.

lol, you're right. I must have miss-typed, or been too sleepy to re-read my message before sending. I'll edit my previous message as well.
Still, the point stands! Guess we'll find out in the part 2 of the LL. The chances of them considering separating the item limit from the interior size are slim at best, but dreaming is free :P I think it'd be the best of both worlds if they go ahead with the Tardis housing, since otherwise no one would have a reason to try out different house layouts except the Mansion type.

An increase of 50 would be awesome for my cottage. I used up a lot of slots to set the house up, an increase of 50 would allow me to add small details so that it looks like someone actually lives there.

Now that Tardis housing is confirmed, I thought it was appropriate to bump this thread. I really, really hope they won't tie the interior layout to the available item slots, now that we will be able to swap around at will. Just let us have all the slots and whatever layout we want!

Bumping this. Now that we have a clearer idea of what's in store for 7.5, I feel like it's important to consider this too. I don't think it'd be overly difficult for them to do and it'd give us an actual reason to use other layouts besides the large type.

Can't wait for WoW Midnight to come out. At that point, WoW will have the better housing, on top of the better guild systems, the better transmog system, the better class/job design, the better dungeon design, the better raid design, the better race diversity, the better encounter design, the better open world...

What's left? The story? The art style? The, eh, 'venue' scene?
