Probably another demiatma criticism post - with a story

Yeah, I did consider just taking it slower, but when the next step requires tomes, I don't want to overcap and not be able to buy the necessary item yet. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I want to be as efficient as possible, and the thought of losing out that many tomes was not something I wanted to risk.

I do agree, having a guaranteed drop would be nice. Then also I wouldn't be so stressed over the tomes. The 5% bit is fun lol, it still gives players a feeling of luck without it feeling like they're UNLUCKY if they don't get it, since you'd still get at least one atma.

On one hand, why?

Because what else are you doing in this game right now if you're a veteran player who's mostly caught up? People are starved for content due to the absurd drip feed that has only been exasperated in Dawntrail. We're almost a year into the expansion's lifestyle and this is the first piece of battle content that will last beyond a week that isn't a high end raid. It's only natural people want to engage with it, whether going into OC or simply getting their relic going. Telling them to take it slow is simply absolving the dev team of their poor decisions. We already waited two full patches only to be told we needed to wait another couple months and now people are supposed to take their time and wait yet again?

Perhaps if they released the relic near the beginning of Dawntrail people would. At the very least they wouldn't be nearly as starved looking for something to do.

With all that said, I know mean to rag on you, specifically. I'm just using your post as a launch pad because this response always annoys me.

This is not a grind you should do several hours a day for several days straight trying to get it done immediately. There are two months until the next patch. Just play a little bit of OC every day doing what you want and not worry about the atmas, and then after a month or so you will have them all.

I agree & disagree. You are right, we have 2 months until the next patch, & players don't have to grind for several hours or days to get the atmas.
BUT it shouldn't take this 1st step hours upon hours or days to get the atmas.
For me, grinding is about the purpose, the plan, & the productivity. The PURPOSE of this content is to obtain a relic weapon. The PLAN is to obtain 18 atmas and then spend 1,500 tomestones to upgrade that relic weapon. PRODUCTIVITY is to get the items you need. It shouldnt take players 6 hours in a zone to get 0 to 1 atma, especially with terrible RNG. That's stupid & ridiculous. The 1st step should the easiest one of all the future steps—just my opinion.

You're right. It's NOT a grind, and that's the problem. It's just RNG luck. The problem is that there will always be players like me who want to do things as quickly and efficiently as possible. Yeah, I could spend two months getting my atmas... If I didn't care about being inefficient with my heliometry and overcapping like crazy. I'm going to keep doing other content. Hunt trains especially, which give a lot of tomes. The fact that I can't buy my 3 arcanite without first doing the atma step means I'm just wasting time. I want every relic. That's 31,500 tomes. That's a lot. I'm not going to want to waste a single tome if I want to be finished with THAT step anytime soon. Which, btw, I don't MIND the tome grind, since it's clear they're not JUST doing the "buy weapons with tomes" step.

But do you see what I'm getting at? It's not about how long the devs intend something to take, it's about how efficiently it can be done if you DO want to "no-life" it. Which the atma steps are not efficient. Even slightly. As I said in my initial post, it encourages you to NOT do the new content, which again, hits at the point of it being inefficient. I can't grind phantom jobs, achievements, or silver/gold with peace of mind, just knowing that the rare case of luck I get with an atma will just be wasted by getting one I already have.

Again, I totally agree with you. Grinding has to be productive & efficient. I was in one of the zones today, and several players in the party that I was in gave up because they were in the same zone for 4-6 hrs, grinding fates without getting any atmas. To me, that's just stupid & horrendous. I don't blame them. It will be sad that in 2 months when the new patch comes out, a few players will still be trying to get an atma in the same zone since the OC content came out.

It's odd I never thought of grinding as productive unless it's like for achievement, where you need to do 1k Fates. I mean efficient would going into OC and staying there the entire time since the drop rate is higher.

I do agree it's too much on RNG tho since I'm tired of farming OC, and I'm still missing any Yellow atmas despite doing CE all over.

Why did you guys go out and farm fates instead of staying in OC?
You said yourself that you're an achievement hunter and want to get all of them. Staying in OC would give you progress on both Atmas and all the new cheevos. Unless you were also missing some of the overworld fate grinds as well that is.

I really don’t understand why you made yourself miserable by grinding FATE outside of OC.

You present yourself as an achievement hunter and raider. So I guess you will go to the Forked Tower. You could have made progress for that by staying in OC with a better Atma drop.

FATE outside of OC is meant as an alternative for people that want to also lvl jobs while grinding. It’s more a long run grind.
