I play OSRS, I'm not afraid of a grind.

This isn't about 'I want things handed to me for free', it is (in my case/what I posted, at least) about 'I would like to see SE have a bit more foresight in their designs'. Say that someone gets unlucky, with what I wrote in the game, all the 'bad luck protection' elements implemented. Okay, so instead of grinding OC for an undetermined amount more time, they can instead grind tomes or FATE gems and have a deterministic goal to work towards to get their missing Atmas. It might be 'less grind' if you know how long the undetermined OC grind length would be (hindsight and all that), but without that, we have to take the average length of that grind, and hitting a 20% chance 3 times in OC CE's, versus 'do 53 DT FATEs to get enough Bicolor Gemstones to buy the 3 items' seems pretty comparable in 'grind' to me.

By the time I completed the first step of the quest and had 3 of each Atma, my Atma counts were 6/4/9/7/3/3. Those extras, like the SIX extra lightblue ones, had no further use to me and had to be simply thrown away, discarded. Rather than that, what I suggested in my post would have given those duplicates an actual use, as being the thing you trade in to buy the relic (instead of 'random ore you've never heard of until now which happens to cost the exact same amount of tomes as the EW relic steps). Was I not 'grinding' when I obtained those duplicate Atmas?

Part of what people appreciated about FFXIV when first coming over from other MMOs, was that FFXIV's 'grinds' were more deterministic in nature. That they 'respected the players' time'. You could see the light at the end of the tunnel, because even though getting 2000 Light Points in HW sucked to do, you could see that it was 2000, and you currently had 'some amount between 1600 and 1800', so you knew 'oh I'm pretty close to done'. The problem with this step isn't the rates (they felt very fair to me, even before knowing the actual numbers). The problem is that you can get duplicates that are completely useless after the quest, making it feel like you're 'wasting your RNG', which, yeh that's not how RNG works, but it is how players perceive it.

Plus, I've not been back into OC since reaching max rank on all the Phantom Jobs and finishing the Demiatma stage. I imagine the same applies to a lot of players: They complete their 'goal' in there, and then they stop going in there. The amount of Tomes you earn by doing Critical Engagements in there is pathetically low, compared to other options (mainly roulettes). If I could hand in 1 of each Demiatma to get a Relic (instead of 3 'ore I've only just learned exists'), then there'd be a lot more reason to be in OC beyond the original grind, and we'd have reason to hold onto duplicate Demiatmas (to use on other Relics)

Again, this is not 'players don't want to grind', this is 'SE keeps making content that has an incredibly short 'expiration date', and players are catching on that SE has little-to-zero foresight in their design process'
