If you step back from this thread and remember that FFXIV is a fantasy game, this gets even more surreal.
The argument for gender-locking gear is the following:
Certain sartorial conventions that exist in part of our world in 2025 must be rigorously applied to a completely independent society.
It's like supposing that in any bipedal extraterrestrial civilization that might be out there, the women wear skirts and the men wear pants.
why the heckie are the mods not cracking down on the transphobia and queerphobia actually.
/e: And yes, insinuating that crossdressing or even wearing """"""""female""""""""""" clothing on a male character is "playing pretend" does veer in that direction, because irrespective of gender norm garbage, a lot of trans people also do that because they wanna have a character that is their body type.
Whether or not those posters are aware, those sentiments are classic misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia—three in one package, complete with a pill of obstinacy!
But anyway..
They have done it before with stuffs like many mog station glams. I just want them to follow through that with the rest of the available wardrobe. I’m especially still waiting for that butterfly hairpin from female aiming makai set to be available for my male middie lol. And the flower hairpin from female healer makai set too. Smh…
There’s also just the fact that if you put arbitrary gender resurrections on gear who gets to be the arbiter of what is and isn’t acceptable
Like my character has a feather hairpin. Is that too “feminine” for a male character to wear?
You can’t even answer the above question with “square is the arbiter” because some people here want square to be even more conservative so it’s obvious square has made decisions too liberal for you (like the person who doesn’t like that makes have speedo options calling them bikinis when speedos are a perfectly normal male swimwear type)
And what about the line between two people arguing conservatism, who gets to pick when one of you is fine and the other isn’t with a piece
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
Surely we're being trolled? Or have been transported to the 1950s?There’s also just the fact that if you put arbitrary gender resurrections on gear who gets to be the arbiter of what is and isn’t acceptable

Next they'll be demanding Aymeric dumps his less-butch gowns, removes those dangly earrings, and quits wearing eyeliner.
Meanwhile, can we please get that cross-dressing miscreant M'naago into a gingham blouse and A-line skirt?
Vive la résistance!

I see you have gotten stuck in grade school biology. Biological sex is actually quite complicated. It is not a binary, it is a bimodal distribution. If you're going to argue on the basis of science, it would be prudent to actually educate yourself on said science. Unless you like to make yourself look foolish which, given your post history, might actually be the case.
Edit: typo

Congrats you got my husband banned... for your information he himself is bi and accusing him of being "queerphobia" is just silly. You just wanna be right and dont care for anything else. Your side argues "but its a game not real life" yet you go and say "but some want their char to fit their body type"...why the heckie are the mods not cracking down on the transphobia and queerphobia actually.

SE gave you a finger and you want the whole arm, like usual...
Theres a HUGE difference between earrings, some haripins or literally bikini or brides dress. Its the special thing for women and you want to take it away because you dont wanna play a girl but "play" a girl. There are gender roles, the dress belongs to girls, period.
Two man, two girls, all is fine. Stop using "-phobe" as your magic word for everyone who doesnt support your opinions... we also had quite some trans ingame friends (most stopped playing) and we never had issues. But have fun, go on and report me as well, i dont use the forum these days anyways...
Just try to ban and report everyone you dont like.
I share his opinion that while some gear sure is fine, Kimonos, Robes, heck some Scottish Kilt... everything is fine. But some stuff should stay exclusive or at least get adapted versions.
