I genuinely wonder if this is an excuse or actually the truth. And if it is true, I just don't understand that decision on SE's part. XIV is by far their biggest cash cow. They literally have a golden goose and they're starving it. Makes no sense to me but I'm not a business exec or investor, I guess.

I dont think it really matters wether it's the truth or just an excuse, they reason for both is bad management.I genuinely wonder if this is an excuse or actually the truth. Finally out of the gay baby jail... and somehow this thread is still going.
The things I do for the glam...
At the end of the day, FFXIV is fiction, so what is wrong with allowing players to dress up their characters like they want?

I'm also here looking for a thread about the new variant teased gear for 7.4 because I'm really scared they're going to make it genderlocked like this too. If bun girls are running around in the first image with the thigh draperies and my bun boy character can't wear it even though it's exactly his style I might actually cry. But the occult crescent stuff has shaken my trust in the devs with gender-locked gear. I thought they were getting better, and then this happened. Yuwe gear isn't as egregious but the girls still get cute shorts while the guys have dull pants again. Aaand then there's the new pvp gear, with the adorable shorts with the half-leggings and tie.. for female models only. Other posters are right that it's so egregious it feels kind of sexist and gross.
It's shocking because I also thought we were over this.
Please re-establish my faith and make it so both genders have access to both versions of 7.4's variant gear.
Link to an x post where a bunch of the comments are people being worried it will be genderlocked.

It's also literally more work to make multiple models of the same gear.. If resources is the issue, then there should only be one version of any gear. (I also agree that having both models available to both genders is the best way to go, but this point still stands. There is absolutely no reason for it to be radically different based on character gender.)
I don't think those are genderlocked... at least not with the image being the male/female comparison, simply because while those 2 sets seem to live in the same Thavnairian fantasy, if you examine it bit by bit you'll see that they don't resemble each other at all.THIS THIS THIS

Look at the hands, the details, etc. Usually when a set changes for the male/female models, they still retain a semblance of the elements even if the silhouette changes.
Edit: Unless they're separate sets exclusive to each gender (e.g. left one not being able to be used by male characters, and vice versa)... which is hard to believe since they don't do this, idk, ever since Stormblood? And it goes against their work of removing the genderlocking from old items.

Yeah if you look at the sets that are different for both genders, like the level 90 Dancer gear, they share a lot of details. Those two sets are completely different from each other. That doesn't mean they'll look the same on a male and female character of course, but I do think we're looking at two separate glams there.
