Lol, this.
I can't count the number of times I saw people here crying about the Endwalker relics and wishing it was "just like ARR and HW again". Well, there's the FATE grinding and Atmas, wish granted I'd say.
Bozja and Eureka was the perfect amount of grind. Then they brought back Atma grind and then after the atma grind is the EW relic crap with tomes.
Im sorry to disagree, but i actually enjoy the atma grind. I quite liked doing zodiac weapon in ARR and I'm glad we are getting something closer to zodiac or reistance weapons. I get its not for everyone, but considering the main questline can be completed in a day, a longer dedication keeps interest in the content going.
On the tome grind, I agree it could have encouraged other content or forked tower (very suprised it is not exchangable with sanguinite). But I guess it is a wait and see where they take the grind in future patches.
Ultimately, I'm glad we are getting Occult Crescent to fill the gaps in content for non-raid focused players, and a relic that rewards interest in it without demanding it.
They'll never make grinding engaging in FFXIV beyond mindless farming that we've been getting, because the moment you ask of the very bare minimum of skill and effort from this playerbase, the vast majority of the community would crumble.
I would love to have some old school MMO relic quests where players had to complete a challenging event or quest solo, without outside help or they failed.
I think you are misremembering Bozja. The grind was "bad" then too.
I'm 2/3 of the way done with mine, try whining less and playing more.
Bozja was the first relic I earned when it came out, despite the fact I began playing in ARR. I was initially turned off of it because of the RNG, but I remember giving it a chance and being pleasantly surprised by how consistently I made progress. They'll never make grinding engaging in FFXIV beyond mindless farming that we've been getting, because the moment you ask of the very bare minimum of skill and effort from this playerbase, the vast majority of the community would crumble.

Yes it did take a long time, but I don't care about how long it takes, I care about being able to reliably make progress.
I regret missing out on Eureka. I was turned off of it due to losing exp if you died, which being an old-school MMO player is not something I wanted to return to.
I never wanted the Atmas back. But here we are, and it’s primarily because during Endwalker, and even to some extent in Shadowbringers, there was a vocal group romanticizing the old-school grind. They kept talking about how "nostalgic" the Atma system was, calling for a return to that kind of content. That sentiment only grew as Endwalker content was seen as too easy by some, and boredom set in almost immediately.
So now we have it back, and suddenly, it’s a painful reminder of why it wasn’t missed. And yet, I guarantee that if the next expansion swings back to a more straightforward grind, the same people will start clamoring, “Bring back Atmas!”
This community constantly flip-flops on what it wants. Every iteration of grind from Atmas to Relic Books to Field Operation content has had flaws. We continue to send mixed signals to the developers, then become frustrated when they listen and deliver what was requested. The problem isn’t just the system; it’s also our inconsistent feedback that leaves the developers guessing.
This argument has been thrown around a LOT lately. The problem is, it's no longer 2015. It's 2025. There are now countless free games with far more content that is more engaging than what we get here. There are even old MMOs that have been newly revived (HorizonXI, WoW Classic) since 2015 that have grown in popularity. Square Enix Co., Ltd.'s Creative Studio III can no longer act like we have no choice. WoW isn't a sinking ship, Chinese games aren't scams, and Final Fantasy is no longer an esteemed brand.
Then go play those? I know you have been here for months if not years now only to express how unhappy you are, yet here you are. This argument has been thrown around a LOT lately. Bearing in mind that I have made several posts critical of the new relic grind, the reason we have a grind now is to address the issue that there was no reason to log in anymore.
A lot of the people being like "people wanted a grind, now they don't want to grind" are just falling victim to the goomba fallacy (I just learned what that was recently and I'm so glad we have a name for this now). But I legitimately do not know what you want.
I DID want a grind. I wanted a reason to play FF14. I actually have gone back and played WoW some due to having nothing to do in this game (they're not happy over there right now btw). My problem is I didn't want the grind to be based on RNG.
What did you want, then? Did you actually want to go back to the tomestone thing where we had nothing interesting to log in for except raids? Because if they did that, I think they would be much more guilty of being lazy and taking us for granted than with this new relic. They actually put effort into making a brand new zone and everything this time.
