Over a decade later and still the same arguments. Any detractors of the grind are called 'lazy' or they want 'handouts'.

No one can convince me that bad RNG for 5h or more with zero rewards is fun gameplay.
To be fair, most previous iteration of the relic also utilized the same method of RNG.
ARR had atmas
HW had the fate crystals
SB didn't. There they did have a grind that wasn't related to RNG.
SHB had memory farming
EW had no RNG
The difference this time around is the scale of RNG used. However I did hear that the atmas are a one time thing. So you don't need to do the same grind for all your weapons. Odds are that if you wait, the drop chance will be buffed later on.
Not meant to diminish your complaint. Just to point out that relics have for the most part, utilized RNG.
i enjoy the boss, the leveling of fantom jobs is whatever, the lazy korean rng shit shouldn't exist on subscription game.
This is low quality, low effort, disrespectfull content.
But personally i am not on a rush considering the sage weapon looks like garbage.
I hope the person who designed this shit isn't getting paid for it.
Compared to the rest it really looks bad, rushed and stupid.
It's mostly that they can't understand that people DO want to do the grind...but they also want their time RESPECTED! The current grind is a one off grind, and yes it is similar to the atma grind of ARR's relic. That doesn't excuse the fact it is incredibly disrespectful of people's time. Nor does it make it a good grind.
Yeah, I've been playing since ARR and I remember these. I skipped the relics in ARR and HW for this reason. To be fair, most previous iteration of the relic also utilized the same method of RNG.

I liked SHB a lot even though I remember it did need some RNG, but I recall the drop rate being a lot better. I remember playing for a few hours and walking away with a couple of the items I needed. This time I only got 1 after around 5 hours.
What pushed me away from SB was actually Eureka, not the relic grind. I actually am old enough to have played old school MMORPGs where you could lose exp for dying like EverQuest and Final Fantasy XI, so even though I was the target demographic for that zone, the thought of returning to that system made my skin crawl.
1) SB technically did have an RNG step, but not for completion: once you completed the Pyros step, what stats you got were RNG, but you could choose to not accept the new stats if they were worse, and once you saved the stat changes they gave you another stat slot (there are five total, only the first one is guaranteed at first), then you are guaranteed for all those stat slots to have stats at least. (The various Discord servers for the Baldesion Arsenal and Delubrum Reginae Savage farming have more in depth explanation for this part)To be fair, most previous iteration of the relic also utilized the same method of RNG.

2) While the ShB had some RNG in them, I remember while doing them on content there was always at least one option that guaranteed the memory drops (Tortured/Sorrowful/Harrowing seemed to have a 100% drop rate in HW zones with a gold rating, Bitter were guaranteed in dungeons, Loathsome/Haunting/Vexatious I believe were guaranteed on the non-CE/FATE options pre-drop rate buff, and for the steps after those, I believe only PotD and HoH had RNG drop rates while the other options were guaranteed for theire respective drops, both for the one time steps and the farmed ones)
I thought it was kind of funny how much the visual quality of the weapons varied. I was disappointed about the Sage weapon too, but maybe the upgrades will be better. I am a bit tired of the meme looks.
This is where we are as a community? Complaining that we have to pay attention? Good lord....I wanted a grind, but not an RNG grind.
I would prefer "gather 100 of this item" and each fate grants 1 item over "gather 18 of this item" and then play for 5 hours and get exactly 1, which is what I just did.
RNG grinds are the worst. I logged out wishing I had just spent those 5 hours playing a different video game.
Also, the bosses are hard enough to actually need you to focus, which means you can't just turn your brain off and listen to an audio book or youtube or something. So not only is it an extremely long grind where you do not make guaranteed progress, you have to pay attention during a lot of it.
