I wanted to give my thoughts on the current Dye System and that it needs some rework.
The main problem with the Dye system is the amount of different dyes and inventory space, ths becomes most apparent when you are decorating a house.
So i want tó make two different sugestions to reduce the bloat and make dying your gear less cumbersome:
Solution 1:
Remove all Dyes*
Gear can be dyed completly freely without the need for dyes, we juts use "magic" to change the color of our armor.
*this will probably not work because some dyes are more valuable than others right now (Pure white for example), unlocking colors to use them would be required.
Solution 2:
Greater Dye Reduction.
Instead of having one dye for each idividual color, only have a handful of Dyes that can be used for a variation of colors:
-Common Dye > used for all Colors from crafting & sold from vendors.
-Rare Dye > Used for Pastel Colors &Bright Colors (Cherry Pink, Cyan Blue...)
-Metallic Dye > Used for Metallic Colors
-Neon Dye > Used for all new Neon Colors
-Premium Dye > Used for Pure White or Jet Black only.
This will reduce the Item bloat from 145 down to only 5.
The only reason for requireng a specific dye for each color is immersion, otherwise this system is archaic and obsolete.
I have played some pay2win korean games that had a better dye system than what FFXIV has right now, you only needed a "magical thread" to dye your gear, but any color you liked.
Solution 3:
Dye Pouch.
Keep Dyes working the same as they are now, but have a way to store them similar to Shards and Crystals.
Upsides:
Dyes don't take up Inventory Space and can still be Sold, just like shards or crystals.
Immersion to require a specific Dye for coloring is still intakt.
