Housing is indeed a mess, my OG main on Exodus waited 7 years to get her large plot. I know it's worse for those on the data centers with larger populations than Primal. For now, try getting an apartment and FC room. You can also try creating or sending an alt to Dynamis to grab even a mansion and that'll make the wait for your main getting their plot much more bearable like it did for me when Seraph first went live until my OG main won her plot last June. June 6 will also be the date when the auto demolition will return, so you'll have a chance to bid on plots and hope you win.

Because not having access to a plot is not stopping you from engaging in housing

You're playing on the Crystal data center, where all the houses were purchased years ago. If you are new to the game you could consider transferring to Dynamis. The 4 newest Dynamis worlds (Golem, Kraken, Cuchulainn, and Rafflesia) all have thousands of houses available, including many mediums. Many longtime players have alts on Dynamis just to have a house.

part of my issue is vanity Im a performing bard and a new server will have no audience i joined an mmo to be in big crowds so i have to weigh the advantages of housing against less people good option though I may just do it.

If you're doing barding people will still come to your apartment. I personally like them better for venues more as they arnt spread across the house. It's more centralized and focused.
