They are not going to add a new healer. We might get a tank, but I would not be surprised if we get only 1 new job, a ranged physical dps.
i'd rather have rework for a lot of job than a new job... (may be time for a massive rework of all the jobs...)
Yoshida previously said that they'd be overhauling jobs in 8.0, but based on interviews with senior staff more directly involved in the battle content, expect the reworks to be akin to modern SMN, BLM, etc.
Would you have links to those interviews out of curiosity?
I want my MSK/COR
Actually on a slightly more serious note, I've been thinking about this for a while about new jobs and I think that continually making new jobs is only going to make current issues in the game worse. I would way rather they spend that time making more content for us to play, and instead add different variants to each role. For instance, Warrior can either be a tank or a DPS, or a Sage can either be a Healer or DPS.
Now don't get me wrong, they would definitely have to work out kinks for certain jobs, such as reaper or viper who I feel like maybe only fit single roles (maybe some only have one role), but for anyone who played FFXI, it would be kinda sick to have Ninja as a tank again using ninjutsu like utsusemi, making them an invulnerable tank that when you don't keep your shields up the hits really hurt.
Idk how realistic it is, but I found this a fun idea to think about.

I'd dig that. Would give a nice bit of flexibility.A "dual-role" system might be the way to go honestly, where a currently existing job toggles something to change themselves into a different one that gives them a completely different kit and traits.
Imagine Chemist for example simply being the alt-role for MCH, with all the DPS skills swapped out for healer ones, or if a WHM alt-role into DPS let them turn into a Geomancer going all-in on blasting away with wind/earth/water.
It would also allow them to break down some of the role-restrictions on gear with regards to who could use them, not only allowing for a larger number of jobs someone can play after they've geared up (like say, having your full Striking/Slaying also covers your WAR's DPS alt-role), as well as opening up new glamour potential because your BLM-tank with a shield CAN use all that heavy armor now (to say nothing of just allowing more jobs to use shield glams at all).
I should stress that this isn't some kind of talent-system where somebody can "dual-spec" like in other MMOs, but that the job's kit, traits, and required stats switches over to what would be expected of current jobs performing the same role, and you're locked into whatever role you queued for (outside of maybe certain PVP modes like it works right now). And while it can be argued that it's "just current tanking/healing/DPSing with different animations" I do wonder how many people might be more willing to consider roles they hadn't before if they could do it on a job they already liked, or how many people might pick up a job they ignored before because now it has a role they're willing to do.
Still would do nothing at all for the quality of each individual job, though. It'd just be a matter of having more jobs without the increasingly large grind requirement to have access to all options.
I do think plenty of people would be more interested in tanking if they didn't have to be one of three flavors of swordsman or an axe-oaf, or to level a healer beyond just SCH if they could actually get a more fun job bundled in for outside of instant-queue group content whenever they want.
Would be worthwhile, imo, even if... a ton of work... and with fewer sales beats per development hour than the typical new jobs per expansion.
To be honest they wouldn't have to bring two role variants for each job at once (which would be what, 42 new sub jobs?). That could happen over time. And some jobs may just not translate well at all into healer/tank/dps either.I'd dig that. Would give a nice bit of flexibility.

Fair, as long as we're not worried about anyone crying foul for some getting the job "for free" while others would still have to level it. Which, yeah, we'd have to if implementing this.
Anywho, though, here's a still more heretical (even if not entirely serious) idea for yah:
Have all the Primary Stats matter, give the base toolkits massively more available versatility, and allow further customization via a Junction system. You'd have to meet certain minimum throughputs via some manner of Proving Grounds to queue up as a given role on a certain job, but Mind-heavy Support Monk, Int-heavy Storm Mage Conjurer or MND>INT>STR=VIT Earth Warden Conjurer, etc., would all be things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
