I agree a lot on that point.
The whole job identity thing doesn't seems like the revolution people seems to be thinking about.
Give me Puppetmaster! I want to fling my automaton at things till they fall over.
History also made people learn that when a pure RNG classe is meta it's because Dev fucked up the calculation formula and the RNG is nor more (good exemple was dagger user on Lineage Ii during Chronicle 2 patch.... they had 80% chance to do a critical backstab from the face because they added item giving bonus to weapon and they completly fucked up formula.... And the worst was that the critical were boosted at 150% and ignored defense.... you could One shot a Tank XD.... And that was only for backstab.... The other RNG and positional skills had an even more boosted critical rate ^^; )

Hey guys, there probably has been a thread about this before but i couldn't find it so i decided to start one myself.
Mainly just wanted to speculate a bit on what the jobs added in 8.0 are going to be.
It's most likely that it will be a Tank and Phys ranged like it was in Shadowbringers, but maybe we could discuss what those jobs could be, or at the very least what type of weapons they're gonna use?
My thought was to have a tank with a big tower shield, but i'm unsure what else.
As for the phys ranged, my money was entirely on Cannoneer, that is, until they revealed cannoneer would be a phantom job in Occult Crescent, so now i have no clue if any previously existing FF job could fit the bill.
Any ideas?
(P.S: PLEASE DON'T TURN THIS INTO ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT JOB IDENTITY/BALANCING)
I'd like to see another regen healer, so that when they inevitably reroll AST again, at least it can go back to being the job who can flex into both "healer roles". As for what it would be or what weapon it could have, I'm not sure yet! I am just hoping they get cool AF.
I think we could use another physical ranged if they *have* to add 2 jobs per expansion, but I wouldn't be too bothered if they only added one, or none. We have so many, it's a bit hard to keep up with them sometimes.
You’re playing the wrong game. Tanking even the first dungeon in Vanilla WoW 20 years ago on a Warrior to your full potential was 100 times more complex and demanding than anything this game ever had.At this point what I want most are job specs. Bring back the old complicated versions of jobs as different specs allowing the simple and the original forms to coexist. Leave the complex jobs complex and then SE can do what they want with the simple versions without upsetting players. No need to make new gear, animations, or anything like that so it shouldn't be as much work as making new jobs.
If you want gameplay it’s time to accept reality and go elsewhere.
If they keep with the SHB combat design mindset, I can only see them cram new abilities into burst and make some trait-upgrades, turning one ability into a new one as a dmg+visual upgrade.

For a new Phys Ranged, I think an Arbalete "real ranger" type would be very cool!
Otherwise, a "Magic" Phys ranged would also be kind of cool! Imagine working together with a familiar! That can turn from your weapon to a familiar that also attacks! Like Ranjit!

If it was up to me, we'd get a tank and a healer in 8.0...and again in 9.0. That would almost make the combined number of tanks and healers equal to the number of DPS. But I'd honestly be less surprised if they gave up on adding new tanks and healers entirely.
I've read comments to the effect of "we shouldn't get more tanks or healers, because they'll just be a reskin of existing ones", but I think the small number of tanks and healers is part of what allows the job designers to justify making the jobs in each role so homogeneous. Imagine if tanks and healers had sub-roles like DPS do. I'd like to see a melee healer, a caster tank, or some such...they could complete the Arcanist trifecta by adding a job that tanks using summoned creatures.
The first dungeon of vanilla WoW 20 years ago, apparently.
