This mode revolves around focus-firing. Your teammates will consistently attack 3-4 different targets, ignoring your markers and chat commands, while your opponents nonchalantly burn your team down 1-by-1 and easily outpush you. You'll virtually never see your team use any chat commands other than a worthless "Hello" at the start, paired with the one guy who hops around like a doofus for 45 seconds then runs in and immediately dies.

Win-trading is still a thing too. I saw two SMNs in a casual match a couple days ago with the same last name and, surprise: the one on the opposing team significantly outperformed the one on ours.

I don't really know anything about Crystalline Conflict because I haven't played it yet. I got my 1000 wins in Rival Wings and am 1330 / 3000 towards completing Frontlines. I plan to pursue my Crystalline Conflict achievements after I finish Frontlines.

I always assumed Crystalline Conflict would be much easier than Frontlines or Rival Wings. For one, there are only two teams. Also, far less to keep track of. In Rival Wings, you gotta worry about goblin mercenary, train, enemy mechs, and just getting pops at all. In frontlines, you gotta worry about node spawns, incoming pinches, getting team to focus the lead team, etc... In Crystalline Conflict, it sounds like all you gotta think about is "go to crystal, stay on crystal, fight enemy players who come near crystal." Is that about the crux of it?

What worries me is how everyone here is talking about casual matchmaking. I haven't played Crystalline Conflict yet, and no guarantee that Ranked would even pop when I start, so I just assumed I would start me out at casual. If I perform too well, will this matchmaking system eventually work against me?

Nobody really knows exactly how the matchmaking system works. It may be tied to win rates overall. It's possible that if you have a high win rate in casual matches over a large enough sample size that it could affect your teams in ranked. Sometimes if I'm ranking up a character and I'm at diamond, I'll be put on a team with one crystal tier player and the other team has four crystal players. That doesn't really make sense if matchmaking is just balancing the rankings out.

In Crystalline Conflict you actually have to think about all the actual job and game mechanics that don't really matter in mass pvp modes, and positioning matters ten times more as well. There is momentum, good target focus, how to break through enemy sustain, how to defend properly, how to soak damage for the team, etc. You also don't have allies to hide your mistakes behind. It's a lot more technical if you want to get good at the mode.
