Before we begin, I know revamping FFXIV’s system would be a huge effort, but WoW just built theirs from the ground up (just as much work). FFXIV pushed WoW to be better after Shadowlands, now it’s WoW’s turn to return the favor.
FFXIV’s housing system has been around for a while, Blizzard had the benefit of analyzing its design, along with those of other games to build their own system allowing them to avoid the issues these other housing systems have. Though, it almost seems like they simply studied only FFXIV’s system, pinpointed the issues, and refined them.

Some key points (not all):- 10,000 item limit
- Inside is much bigger than the outside
- Can build all sorts of rooms including clock towers
- Each new patch that brings new furniture to the NPCs, the player housing system will also get it
Why bring this up? WoW's housing system won’t be arriving until Winter, and there are FFXIV players who might be tempted to jump ship for a better alternative. This is the perfect moment for FFXIV’s dev team to take action, lay the groundwork, and set plans in motion for a major housing overhaul.
Will they be able to implement all the necessary fixes by Winter? Probably not. But can they at least start the process and provide a trailer or interview to reassure players that improvements are on the way? Absolutely.
Most importantly, will SE move to fix FFXIV's housing issues with just our requesting it? They haven't yet, and they won't as things stand.
They need competition, and they need their subscribers to cite that competition as attractive (which it sounds like it will be).
Moving forward, we don't just cite the issues we have with the housing system, but we need to begin to say "FFXIV has a problem with people who want to buy houses but can't get them either due to a server being busy or people buying up entire wards. WoW won't have that issue, it's time to play catch up even if it takes a lot of work."
To be clear, it will take work, we understand that. It took a ton of work for the WoW devs to add housing from scratch, but they did it. SE is not some tiny defenseless company, they can rise to the occasion, and meet this competition head on if they opt to do so.
