I just hope no fomo doa content.
I just hope no fomo doa content.
It’s not so much about level of skill as it is understanding how the environment works… if you tried Eureka, happened to go in there alone and/or when not a lot of people were there and got killed in like 5 minutes and didn’t know using return when KOed would mean losing xp, I can see why you’d think it was harder than it is.
Best to go in with a few other people, or shout for a group to level with… start off with challenge logs to build up elemental level quicker, and the mobs that were one shotting you in the beginning won’t even notice you later on.
I suspect that most Eureka enjoyers will be trying out OC for awhile after it releases, but it still tends to be quite active outside of major releases like that.
I don't really have any expectations. I'm just waiting for to come out it already so I have more to do on my main! xD
Never forget your one true friend.
I think there is a clear difference in how eureka is run now, and how it was at release.
How it is now, is essentially people going in most of the time solo, sometimes interacting with someone else in there also doing the same thing when it's about killing NMs, that's about it. But the fact that you have to figure out everything on your own (or go look for guides on your own), set up your magia properly, and do the minimum amount of effort to coast by the content because while elemental level has been buffed through the roof and mount is available from the start, you're still in a lethal area with mobs that can kill you. This is essentially allowing people to go solo, but they still have to pull most of the lifting beyond this. You need to know what to do, there is nobody around making parties or shouting directions that you can hitchhike on and get going. You're on your own.
In contrast when eureka was current, going solo was suicide (duelling a mob of same elvl had a 50/50 chance of you dying especially as a dps), no mount until max elvl, a lot harder to spawn NMs so you also needed many people working on them. But on the other hand, instances were full (144 players iirc?), and all you had to do was to follow the train. Or find a group doing their own thing in their corner of the map appropriate to their level. Sure you could die very hard on the way to join them because shit was ten times more lethal than now, but people would just come and raise you, no biggie. There was a shout from someone needing a raise every 5minute in there. Past that point, all you had to do was farm mobs and grind mindlessly. There was actually little gameplay over what baseline fates are, it's just the environment that was more lethal, but otherwise the strength in numbers just made everything irrelevant. People shouted a NM was up like you'd shout for a hunt mark, and 140 players would flock all the way to kill it, even if they died against it because they were underleveled.
This lame design led me to not even caring about mettle ranks in bozja past what needed for relic.Skill issue.
...okay I am joking, but seriously, while I agree with you typically, I never found it to be that much of an issue in XIV, Eureka you never lose XP if you don't Return, and people have always been very kind about that and gone out of their way to rez people in the most hostile environments imaginable and I've responded in kind when I was capable of doing so, just going "Can I get a rez? <pos>" in Shout chat is enough, and in Bozja you can straight up never delevel, I imagine Occult Crescent will be at least similar to Bozja in that regard where deleveling is impossible, I would still prefer if the penalty wasn't looming over my head at all, but it also isn't *really* there in the end of the day.
Minus xp should be in a content designed for humans.
The XP issue is a big one. Even with 300% faster XP and the armor and the challenge log XP, it took forever. It's something that bothered me with Islands, Eureka, and Bozja. Losing XP in general is bad game design. So I was happy that at least in Bozja you didn't lose your rank.Eh, I got bored of slapping around fish while watching the XP bar barely move, the game then gave me a mission with no marker of where to go, and then I got constantly jumped by things while trying to move through an area until I died and gave up.
I don't really know how other people stomached this until they finished it, as I barely made it half an hour before I was sick of it and never wanted to go back.
But for me, it's just the tedium of the zones themselves and the systems in them. No quest markers is a big one. That pissed me off more than anything. I get it was to make it like XI, but XI sucked. I'm sorry I hated that garbage game.
As I said I will probably hate Occult Cresent, but I'll try it at least. Hopefully, it won't be as anti-social and toxic as Bozja was for me. Eureka was great on the social side. Everyone was helpful and knowledgeable. Bozja felt like World of Warcraft. It was one of the worst experiences for me in this game. It was toxic and unhelpful. I'd tell the Castrum story here, but I'd be a broken record.

Thats pretty much not well received even in JP when first launched. They try to recapture the vibes of old MMO, but instead doing a half way job. The issues of old MMO got magnified without the good thingEh, I got bored of slapping around fish while watching the XP bar barely move, the game then gave me a mission with no marker of where to go, and then I got constantly jumped by things while trying to move through an area until I died and gave up.

I lowered my expectations so that hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised.

Aye leveling up was the worst part of Eureka. Especially since players 5+ levels above you can't directly help. The best part was latching on to a big group spawning and farming NMs, and I'm being generous here since I don't like Eureka at all. I never finished a Stormblood relic and I'd rather do Bozja CEs and farm clusters all day than go back there. So I have no idea how I'll feel about the Occult Crescent but it looks like the goal is a blend of the two that aims to fix some of Eureka's biggest problems. I want fun content for 2025 and IDGAF about the old school MMO experience.Eh, I got bored of slapping around fish while watching the XP bar barely move, the game then gave me a mission with no marker of where to go, and then I got constantly jumped by things while trying to move through an area until I died and gave up.
