Recurrent packet loss since last patch

Hi, I've been playing since 2013 and I have never had the amount of packet loss I've been getting since the last patch.

In rush hours I get 50-75% packet loss when pinging. In-game I get stuck on mounts or in menus for a good couple of minutes, or even worse when playing in any combat content.

This has become increasingly frustrating and I honestly don't know what else to do. I haven't changed ISPs or anything, and I run a wired 2 GB symettrical connection on my PS5.
This is the only game in which I'm having troubles.

Please, if anyone has been having similar experiences please share and let's see if we can get an official response.

I have faced similar problem and the only solution that has worked for me is buying an Asus router that lets me use openvpn protocol vpn for ps5

Is there any VPN provider you would recommend thats compatible with the Asus router? I was thinking of going down that route and was directed to mudfish, but the routers they need aren't easy to come by.

Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

The issue you are describing is most associated with interference with the game data on FINAL FANTASY XIV. Most of the time, it results from certain security/privacy changes on the PSN web browser which can be reset as follows:

    - Select 'Settings' from the main menu and navigate to 'System'.
    - Once there, click 'Web Browser'.
    - To clear cookies, please select 'Delete Cookies'.
    - To clear the browsing data, please select 'Clear Website Data'.
    - Double check to see if JavaScript is enable by selecting the slider next to 'Enable JavaScript'.

The fault may also lie with the "Date & Time" settings on your PlayStation 5. We would advise to please follow the provided steps to adjust your console's clock to assure it is accurate and up-to-date:

    1. Close the FINAL FANTASY XIV game/application.
    2. Go to [Settings] on your PlayStation 5.
    3. Select [System] > [Date and Time], and click X to select the automatic "Set via Internet" option. (Please do not manually set the date and time.)
    4. Once, the date and time settings have been updated, please restart your PlayStation 5 console.
    5. Once your console has fully restarted, please start the FINAL FANTASY XIV game/application.
    6. Please make sure all other internet-enabled devices (including smartphones, laptop/desktop PCs, tablets, etc.) have been disabled and/or turned OFF to minimize game interference.

If the suggestions provided above do not resolve the issue, then there is a communication error. (Not the same as a connection error.)
Check the following Port Ranges on your router/modem to ensure that the following Port Ranges have been opened/forwarded/triggered:

    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040

*This can be done by visiting www.portforward.com, locate your specific Router/Modem Brand and Model Number from the 'List of Routers', and you will find a step-by-step guide on how to access your ports.

If you have properly configured your router, and you are still experiencing these issues, our next suggestion is to bypass the router, and connect your console directly to your modem. Please ensure that you power down both the modem and the console for at least five minutes before attempting to connect to FINAL FANTASY XIV.

If you continue to receive these same errors when you are connected directly to the modem, then the problem lies with your ISP. We would recommend contacting your provider and advising them that one or more of the ports previously provided to you are being blocked or filtered, and that you do need access on these ports.

Lastly, we suggest power cycle the console and router by shutting down the PlayStation 5/Router and leaving the power supply unplugged for 5-10 minutes.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Thank you kindly for your response.

I tried the methods you described but unfortunately they didn't fix the issue.

The Delete Cookies and Clear Website Data options so far were the only ones that provided temporary respite to the packet loss. The port opening, however, seemed to make it impossible to connect to the game at all.

So far it seems like the router with VPN is the only viable option. It is a huge investment, over 500 USD to get an ASUS gaming router in my area, and I think it is unacceptable that besides the subscription and the base game I have to end up paying for a 500 dollar router plus a VPN subscription just to make the game viable. This is becoming a more widespread issue from what I've been able to gather playing with other people today at reclears. I hope you can find a more permanent solution soon.

Greetings and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums. We apologize for any inconvenience experienced when trying to play Final Fantasy XIV. Please try the following:

    - Flush DNS: Within the "Command Prompt" of the device, please type the command "ipconfig /flushdns".
    - Reset TCP/IP: Also within the Command Prompt, type the command "netsh int ip reset" and then restart the computer.
    - Change local DNS: Please try changing the local DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    - Delete local files with corrupted character data, please note this will not delete the associated characters.

We hope these additional troubleshooting steps help, thank you once again for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums!

Apparently its happening alot, im also suffering from that + constant disconnects (although that may appear to be a South America issue, cause everyone from there is suffering the same on peak/rush hours)
