Im gonna be the one to say it FFXIV on Switch 2 please!

Im gonna say it, it might piss you off, it might sound uncesserary, it might make you say "please no we dont need that" it might make you hate me and I understand it but Im gonna say it anyway. With an install base on S1 over 150 million and a new console coming out that is on par with ps4 or allegedly ps4 pro ( can also handle ff7 remake ) Im gonna say it. Do it devs!

It depends on the hardware of the Switch 2, if it's more powerful than the ASUS RoG Ally X, then it should handle the game well as my RoG Ally Z1E (a bit weaker than the Ally X) handles this game pretty good at 720p low settings while playing at the 10 watt mode. I also hope it has a larger battery than my Ally since I can get two hours tops at the 10 watt mode, any higher such as 18 watts (sweet spot for the Ally Z1E/X) gives me like an hour and some change. The Ally X has double the battery capacity over my Z1E. But the Ally X cost $800, so it's going to be hard to believe Nintendo would be able to match the Ally X's performance for $450 for the Switch 2. When my Ally is docked or at the 18 watt custom profile I created, I can comfortably play this game at 720p max settings over 45 fps.

You're honestly better off getting the Ally X or wait for the Ally Z2E coming this summer and it should trounce the Switch 2 for portable gaming. SE doesn't have to do any porting since the Ally runs on Windows 11 and you can install Steam OS as well. It's a superior experience over anything Nintendo offers.

They probably will, but it'll end up being the mobile phone version somehow, lol.
The original Switch had worse hardware than phones. I wouldn't be surprised if XIV Mobile is beyond the Switch 2.

Yeah the game is already in shambles and basically in maintenance mode at this point with very minimal content, lets make them focus on an entirely different port to a different console, great idea, what could go wrong

For the original Switch, the biggest problem was that the internal storage of the base console was WAY too small for XIV, and the original format microSD card was too slow for the i/o needed to run it efficiently.

The Switch 2 supports microSD Express storage cards this time! FFXIV's large install would fill up half of the internal storage of the Switch 2, but I'd bet a dollar you could ship FFXIV with an optional 256 GB external storage microSD Express card and have the game run off that, cartridge style. The new format is allegedly as fast as a solid state drive so the new Switch can handle the higher throughput of a game like XIV. (Or someone who already has invested in one of the 1TB cards could buy the base game and throw it on that.)

Switch 2 power is somewhere between PS4 Pro and Xbox Series S, as there are many comparison videos showing the Switch 2 producing BETTER visual fidelity than the Series S. Digital Foundry even made a "correction/apology" video recently for originally claiming that the NS2 was on par with a PS4., which was obviously very wrong.

Nintendo is losing money selling the console at $450 due to it actually being as capable as some $1000+ handheld PCs, which also partly explains the games price going up. I suspect the actual power isn't as much as the really high end gaming PCs, but rather the proprietary custom software and AI DLSS making games look amazing while using very little power. On top of that, the Switch 2 will have games fully optimized for the console as opposed to a typical gaming PC. On top of that, being able to use the Joycon as a mouse should come in handy. From what testers have said, it has very low latency with high DPi and overall feels "premium".
Overall, I'm excited af for the Switch 2.

I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped the PS4 support in 8.0, I was kinda surprised it didn't get dropped with DT. So adding another system on the level of the PS4 Pro wouldn't really make much sense.

I wouldn't worry too much. The NS2 will be plenty capable. Projekt Red is releasing Cyber Punk on the NS2 with the Phantom Liberty DLC which means that the NS2 is able to sufficiently run games that even the PS4 Pro couldn't. Projekt Red stated that the reason why they weren't releasing the DLC on either PS4 or PS4 Pro was because they simply weren't able to get the game to run well on them.
