Lahabrea Fight / A help for "weak" players

    Hello All

I'm pretty new to the game. I'm a summoner level 53. The fight against Lahabrea at the end of the MSQ has been very hard to me.

I'm not a talented player. At the top of it, I hadn't very good equipment (no gils to invest). Though, today, I won that fight. It wasn't heroic. I needed a very long time, but I got it.

Based on that experience, I can share a few easy things that were the keys to winning in my case. Maybe it can help others struggling with that fight.

    Hyper-potions
Restoring up to 11000 points! They're expensive, yes, but by far less than gear pieces of a higher level than what I had. I was always checking my health, using a potion as soon as it was less than the half, especially before a massive blow from Lahabrea.

Side note: I was maintaining Aegis up as much as possible, recasting it continuously.

    Moving over casting
I was moving all the time, avoiding AOEs. I was casting only when I was behind Lahabrea or aside him. Disadvantage is that I wasn't casting often, and that my strong skills rarely activated, thus the long fight duration, but my health remained almost always full, helping massively to bear the damages reaching me.

    Lahabrea's feet are comfortable
One little trick worked incredibly well: When the area was free of AOEs, I was standing most of the time on the feet of Lahabrea, watching his aiming arrow marker on the ground. I was then just moving half a step opposite to the marker again and again, standing on his feet and Lahabrea was spinning continuously, not able to cast properly. Soon or later, he had to stop spinning to cast, and I was then behind him, safe, while in the meantime my skills had recharged. LOL!

Anyhow, all that to say, even if there is nothing to be proud of, and it was far from heroic, it worked. So if you too are struggling, try to take it easy and don't bother being slow at it. Run a lot out of AOEs, trample on Lahabrea's feet, cast the few times you can, and eventually you will see it ending.

What gear are you using? If you do your Summoner job quests you’ll be given a gearset that should be good enough for this section of the game. For healing you could also consider using Physick, and Lucid Dreaming when you need more mana.

But either way, great job! Sometimes the game can be hard or unintuitive but if you can take your time with it then you can beat anything in it.

Admittedly it is rough - it used to be a joke (a dungeon party would kill him in seconds), and that didn't fit the lore because he's meant to be really powerful you see. They wanted him to have one of the toughest solo fights to fit this, so it was revamped relatively recently, using modern fight designs that are a lot for a new player I would say.

New players do visit this forum but it seems pretty rare, as the majority of people don't seem to use forums in 2025. But this post may come up on Google when someone is searching for help with it.

I don't understand the - for me enormous - gap between difficulty of that last fight, compared to that of the steps before it. At first, I thought I would have missed some MSQ episodes, or that maybe there is some other quest(s) to do that would prepare for this. But no. Nothing. It's a bit like pushing into deep water a person who can't yet swim.

Since it's a solo instance, I would expect some possible help to prevent that a player remains stuck for ever, even more as part of the game content is locked behind it (for which we pay...). For example, after 5 failed attempts, there could be a choice of difficulty levels: easy, middle, hard or something similar. Or another alternative could be a choice of one supporting NPC (healer, tank or whatever). The help should not be such as making it a piece of cake for all, but as is now, it's on my opinion too much.

I wonder how rangers (wardens?) with bows deal with it?

Have not play it after they change the fight so just some idea watching the fight in YouTube. Looks to me it is a AoE dodged focus fight. il90 set have no issue fighting him, if you found it overwhelming just stop attacking and concentrate on dodging. You could slowly drain him down

I do think that they are trying to make the end bosses of that story arc more powerful since that's logical. Most of the story fights don't really prepare you for something that intense, but the recently added second part of Hall of the Novice which teaches mechanics does a good job teaching the sort of mechanics in that fight, such as carefully placing an AoE marker, knockbacks into safe areas and things like that.

Normally, solo duties only have a few difficulties: Normal, Easy and Very Easy. The default is Normal and if you fail, it usually lets you choose Very Easy. Usually this is just giving you buffs that make you a lot more powerful, but sometimes there are mechanical differences to make it easier, such as needing to pickup less items, a bigger range of important effects that make it almost impossible to fail, etc.

In addition to this, I recall that after 3 attempts it would give The Echo, which makes you even more powerful.
another alternative could be a choice of one supporting NPC (healer, tank or whatever).
Usually there is one of these actually, because the story does not know which role you are. If there isn't one, I think they they do not intend for the incoming damage to be that high, so it might be a bit overtuned.

I remember that when I last did it, it became really hard to survive if I got hit by one of the circles on the ground as well since they take quite a chunk of health away. The patterns are a bit catchy but once you know to expect them, you can anticipate it, but as you said, stopping to cast at the wrong time can prevent you being able to move away fast enough.

It's pretty common behaviour for players trying to do their best damage to want to always be casting, but in that particular fight the timing wants you to move asap.
