I'm also a fan of the final fantasy series so it's fun seeing the callbacks to previous games

Before I first started playing I had seen one of those videos that play music from the game while showing the boss fight.
The one I had seen was Sephirot, and I thought it was really cool, the music and the fight both
It's what made me want to start playing and at the time I didn't even know there was a final fantasy MMO

If only they'd bring back the Dragon Quest MMO since that's my favorite franchise
I think they did but made it into a singleplayer game which is unfortunate, I would've liked to have experienced it

In that point I have to agree with you, most musik in this game is freaking amazing and even if I plan to quite the game probably for good as soon as my game time runs out I think the musik will still stay on many of my playlists.

I like the high end raids, and also enjoy roulettes as an activity to relax with.

I generally really like the story and music as well but the above reasons are why I’m subbed for more than two months per expansion.

Honest Question not a Bait post.

I recently had to admit that the potential I saw in the game when I first started to play did not deliver in the later expansions of this game, Side Quests stayed as low effort as they started Dungeons are a linear corridor of pull all and kill it and any interesting Boss gimicks we had in the past were phased out of the game so that only DDR Remains.

The only thing that keeped me in the Game was the story making FF 14 for my basicly a Visual Novel interupted by medicore to bad gameplay.
So when Dawntrail drove the story against the wall my biggest draw to the game endet.

The other think I enjoyed was Jobidentity. I loved leveling them all learning the to play them all and then seeing them all getting more and more Braindead. Yoshida acknowledged the communeties worry about the Homoginazation and sayed it would be adressed... only for 7.2 to drop and proving... the Devs do not give a fuck about Jobs and see High end Raiding as the be all and end all of this game, and I coulden´t care less for it.

In the last view weeks I read a lot of Discords and Forum posts and... Many agree... DT was a shit show of story, Jobs dummer then ever and the majorety of the people I saw do not care for Extream, Savage and Ultimates and lament that jobs get cut down to fit this kind of content. Space Exploration is a shit show on an embaresing scale as it seems, which leaves me with this question to the community...

what even holds you in the game? Because my honest answer there is nothing left for me and I am really interested to hear what other people still see in this game.

For content:
- pvp (CC/ranked)
- story-ish with a lot of caveats, as the story is definitely suffering from extremely shounen/bad writing currently, but I still do enjoy world building.
- pve used to be a thing, but it's been a slow and painful death for me since shb.

Non game related:
- Social circles, NN (I genuinely like taking care of new players)

Cosmic was so and so to me. I'm not a huge fan of doh/dol activities especially when it turns into a grind, but I do like experts, and I really did like the mission progression and relic progression. I hate the fates though, what a soul crushing experience.

Amassing gil. Seeing number go up activates neurons. I enjoy crafting/gathering and the occasional RP outing. Dungeons/trials/raids are enjoyable for a 10-20 minute investment here and there. Cosmic was enjoyable although a little too easy. Here's hoping it gets more difficult in the future.

For me, it's the story, the music, and the absolute huge amount of things there are to do. As someone who plays FFXIV alongside other games, I usually only play a few hours a week even when the game is one of my primary focuses, so there's still a ton of content and achievements I've never completed. I also found one class in each role that I just have a lot of plain old fun playing - RDM, SCH, and PLD. Then there's smaller things like the Hunt Train community, roulettes, and so on, but the story and the content are the big ones.

Clearly, I sub to FFXIV so I can have access to the wholesome forum community that's only available here.

I just do small goals every week. Right now, I'm farming the DT old extremes for wings and collecting minions. I used to say I love glams but you know I don't have room for more clothes now.

Yeah I can relate with the people recognizing you for the content you appear in. I made some really good regular friends back in the time when I played Eureka in order to do all Relic weapons. Some of my best times in this game I had there with players that just keeped meeting again and again.
Heck I tendet to do so many Duty rouletts daylie that some people even started to remember my name simply because I keepet popping up.

When I do mentor roulettes, I meet the same people over the last few years. When I get the S rank mount every 2 years, I run into the same hunters. Really that is the community aspect of it. You know you're all in it together in a way.

Frontline mainly. But I only like two of the four maps, so end up spending far too much time here on the off days.
