Sunk cost fallacy on my end as well.
I also don't want to lose my houses (Personal and FC), so I log in often enough to keep them going in case I get the sudden urge to actually play for once. I go through peaks and troughs with this game, so I'm hoping this is just a bit of a slump and I'll find the spark again sometime, but this expansion has been a low point for me. When I do play I hunt for achievements mostly or do old side content that I never really bothered with first time around like PotD and HoH.

I like to keep subbed to at least one MMO, nothing better out at the moment to sink my free time into.
It's a damned shame that the devs seemed to have lost their innovation and passion for creation and are just keeping the lights on at the moment with a very very simple content cycle, but what can you do. Square Enix ladies and gentlemen.

Is not problem for Mao. Mao quit game and is willing to give ups Mao house because Mao can no longer play game and Mao finding game was gettings more and more borings. On plus side for Mao, is lookings like Mao will eventually has house in WoW. Mao so happys!

Not much honestly, the game keeps getting harder but I'm not getting better so I keep getting gated out of content and spend more and more time just AFKing in my squadron barracks after doing society quests, hunting marks, and weekly stuff.

Stormblood really did a number on my motivation and confidence to keep playing further so I'm just kinda meandering around staring at the floor unsure of what to do anymore.

What content are you gated out of in DT? Usually, the MSQ is made so everyone can progress through it along with new dungeons. Also, the new raid series is pretty similar to the past raids in older content.

the game overall holds me, i like the gameplay, the story, and it being an mmo, i also like how casual and easy going it is overall without having to worry about a lot and when i want to play less i just do and when i want to play more there is always tons of stuff i can do.

the only way an mmo will be able to tear me off this is if SE gives me a new mmo that is more action based like tera/BnS as i would love a more modern action mmo final fantasy.

WoW has never been my style even though my whole family has played it (they play 14 also) and most new mmos are just so terrible or even worse than terrible at end game plus with nothing else to do, so most mmos are like a flavor of the week type deal for me i try it out and quit once i hit end game.

I haven't actually reached Dawntrail content (I've barely touched down in Shadowbringers), but with Stormblood it was just about everything. I can't think of a single dungeon/trial/raid from that expansion I didn't die in somewhere, and some of them I STILL die in to the point I stopped doing roulettes because I was getting tired of being carried. I even got rocked trying to do the Sightseeing Log because I can't do jumping puzzles for crap it seems, and it's the first expansion where I actually failed parts of the MSQ and had to redo them, sometimes more than once. (Apparently I REALLY suck playing as other NPCs.)

I've also come to find out I'm really not that good at other side content like the Masked Carnivale (Stage 29) or Palace of the Dead (floor 20) and the less said about my attempt at Eureka the better. I can't even like, just solo unsync most of the Extreme trials of Stormblood for the cards because nearly all of them have mechanics that can't be done alone (or at least I'm not good enough to do them alone).

So I'm stuck between all these things I can't complete and not knowing what I'm going to get stuck on next/have to give up on it partway through after trying it.

I think part of the issue is that the big influx of players who came in during COVID hit endgame either in EW or DT. Up until that point, they could simply over-level and outgear MSQ dungeons and trials to the point they were not gated by them. In DT in particular, where there's a difficulty increase over EW, this has caused a lot of people to run into a brick wall.

It is of course possible to get carried in the dungeons and trials, but having to do that repeatedly has made people in my FC thoroughly despondent. The solo duties are also extremely challenging. They don't touch the optional instanced PvE like the current raids at all, so there is much less for them to do.

Again, people who are good at the very specific fight design FF14 provides will roll their eyes at this in disbelief, and trot out "by level 100, you should be able to do X,Y.Z."

But people either cannot, or find it sufficiently challenging and/or boring they simply give up.
