Cosmic Exploration is Fishing's Perfect Endgame

Fishing is the most engaging part of Cosmic Exploration. My first relic weapon was the fishing rod. I have since completed all the relics. I loved running all over the place compared to the crafters. I always do a gatherer first because it allows one to explore and see the artistic views. Fishing is the best for this because you move around a lot and then sit in one place for longer than BTN and MIN while waiting for a bite. The GP regeneration between missions seems better tuned than for BTN and MIN which always feels like you need to use all your GP much more frequently and need it all right away, whereas fishers can conserve GP if they plan things right. GP regeneration also occurs constantly for Fishers, whereas for BTN and MIN only has regeneration upon each gathering action taken. I could watch videos on the side whenever crafting with macros, I would pause infrequently when doing BTN and MIN, but I almost always have to keep my undivided attention on the game while fishing. The puzzles are fantastically tuned. The sequential missions are perfect for fishing. Once you figure out the nature of the puzzle for a mission you then use your strats to overcome the RNG variables and it feels fantastic. You might have to learn by repeating a mission over and over until you figure out the right fish or trick, but eventually when it clicks you can use your knowledge to significantly improve your success rates. I soon found myself farming missions that I thought were hard at first. Eventually you can count after casting and if you pay attention to the bite times you will often know what fish is on the line. That all said, I have caught every fish in the game and have fully pentamelded gear so I cannot speak for the experiences of those trying to level up or those who are not experienced with Big Fishing, but you really do not need to worry about the higher ranked missions to level up yourself or your relic. I suspect many can just turn on fishing for Red Alerts to get easy XP and points (I get double the Cosmic Class Points as a fisher than as a crafter). I managed to gold almost every mission without ever relying on online resources. After I had golded everything I could I turned to online resources and found out I needed to gold a few GSM and CUL missions to unlock a couple weather dependent A-3 FSH missions. As far as I am aware I have golded everything that I can at this point. I will probably turn to making sure I gold all the other jobs in case they unlock other FSH missions in the future.

I had to come and say that fishing in Cosmic Exploration is super fun and super engaging: it is leaps and bounds improved over Foundation Restoration fishing. I look forward to all the future fishing puzzles. Whoever at SE designed the fishing missions for Cosmic Exploration, THANK YOU!

A tip for players: For Sequential Missions there is a five-minute timer that counts down for the next mission after you turn in a mission. You can wait for your GP and Cordial timers to regenerate BEFORE turning in the previous mission. You can also travel to your next destination BEFORE turning in your previous mission. The countdown timer of the next mission only starts counting down after you report the completion of the previous mission. So don't feel rushed to turn in your currently complete sequential mission until you are ready for the next.

Warning to players: When you have a double job mission, like when you need to gather resources to then use for a crafting recipe, the last job you have active at the time of turning in the mission is the one that gets the Cosmic Class Points. So if you want them to go to your gatherer make sure to swap back to your gatherer before reporting your mission success, otherwise the points go to you crafter. It's good to have the choice, but it might not be obvious to many because the relic points do go to both jobs.

I agree. Had an absolute blast on Fisher as my first Cosmic tool.

I felt as though my entire Fishing kit was used across all of the missions which shows that the designers understand the job and what makes it fun. Aside from some weather-dependent missions, you can also attempt things many times in a row without having to wait hours or days. And even then, the weather isn't ridiculously uncommon and can be predicted via the weather tracker for Ultima Thule.

That being said, I do wish that there was a Fishing Log to view on the tablet where we could see the available fish in the various pools. While Fishing is something that is very community-driven, I don't think it's a good idea to hide that information from people who are unfamiliar with the Fisherman's Horizon discord. Some basic indication to tell people what they are fishing for when they boot up a mission would be a great addition. And on a personal note, I enjoy turning ? mark fishies into caught fishies, hehe.

Here I am writing down notes on a piece of paper like some sort of 90's savage.
