A real gamer doesn't trust Game Site reviews, but more of what the comments from the actual players are. Moreso, a real gamer that actually has an opportunity at playing a free trial will most likely do so, so I am hoping that SE offers that, and it could quite possibly change peoples' minds about FFXIV.

Offering a free trial and having that trial advertised on MMOsite and IGN and stuff will gain this game some popularity, the popularity that it doesn't seen to get right now.

The other problem, at least from what I noticed from the video that was leaked, is that the game still looks unfinished in terms of gameplay mechanics. I'm not speaking about graphics but some of the stuff such as I believe some characters looked like they were sliding around during WS animation. It almost seems as if parts are unfinished. So, instead of showing it off to an entire public which will just tear it down (As everyone already is doing over some "grass") they've opted to keep it a little more secretive.

Now, is that a good thing? No, not really by far. SE should have been posting up more footage or screenshots for their fans, posting this on the lodestone (Not the ARR website.) or on their Youtube channel. This way we could see how the game is faring and they don't have to worry about showing it off to an entire populace or popular gaming sites that will tear it down. Generally that's really the problem here, SE is once more becoming a bit too secretive with their stuff when they had said they would be releasing more footage and information on the game. Still, I suppose it is a bit early to call it just yet, though if we don't start seeing a little more beyond the CGI trailers (Which by the way, are pretty damned impressive. Kudos guys for these!) it might be a little more of a concern then.

Another note to make however... I've noticed that all it takes is one image, video, or anything of the sort for forum users to go overboard and begin their wild assumptions.

End result is now they've got to do damage control and try explaining it. This might possibly be why they're hesitant to release some things.

Though the do have a disclaimer that it's only for games on the show floor. Is ARR only in the presentation theater?

Not a new game, nowhere remotely being playable, no release date, etc. As mentioned, Dark Souls Prepare to Die isn't in the list as well, so it's not "hurr, they hate SE / FF / FFMMOS/Japan"

No, it's more for the comfort of me that game sites, like IGN and others, are taking FFXIV ARR seriously. And if they don't, then why not? Is there something we don't know that they do? Is the game already doomed by reviewers? Do they not respect SE anymore? Things like these.

This is IGN we're talking about here - they have no journalistic integrity because they host advertisements for the games they review. Also, their parent companies are the same as the parent companies of the game developers that they review. Journalistic integrity requires a journalist, freelance or not, to state a conflict of interest, yet IGN goes out of its way to say that it doesn't.

And in the end, at least they're not giving their opinions on the matter, and that's much better than giving one in the first place for the 14-year-old l33t kidz who lurk it to read and tear to shreds like the dogs they are.
