    MSQ / Lahabrea: Help required

    Hello All

I'm new to FFXIV. I'm a summoner, level 52. Up to now, I was happily enjoying the levelling up, progressing the main quest, the company stuff, doing side quests... Fun all along!
Yesterday, there was a brutal change: I had to confront Lahabrea. Honestly, what for a shock! It was for me like the level of difficulty has jumped straight from 50 to 100.
Even taking care to stay out of AOE markers, I was dying in no time.

Clearly, I'm not correctly prepared for that, therefore my questions:
    - Do I have to wait having a level higher than 52?
    - Is there a minimum level required for equipment (gear, weapons, accessories..)? Some of my gear pieces are only level 48.
    - Is there any quest/dungeon or else I can do that would prepare me for the fight against Lahabrea? Something that would help reducing the gap in term of difficulty?

    Thank in advance for help.

I can’t remember which quest up against Lahabrea. However, if you wearing 48 gear doing post 50 boss content then very likely you will struggle.

I remember wearing full set of il70 with first few stage of ARR relic, even MSQ become a struggle.

Do you have enough tomestone to get the gear. Once you get some of the 50 tomestone it could carry you till early to mid HW fight

Your Loadstone Profile is set to Private, so I can't see what gear you have or what your overall Item Level is.
That said, at experience Level 50, you can start using gear from the Heavensward expansion, which starts at Item Level 115 ( like https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Rainbow_Casting_Set ) and at your exp level of 52 you can use IL125 gear (like https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/H...ow_Casting_Set )
You can pick those up from crafters or from people selling them on the Market Board, even if you haven't progressed to the point of unlocking the expansion in game.
If you have access to the Ironworks Gear sold by the NPC merchant Aelina in Mor Dhona - Revenant's Toll for Tombstones, that is a bit better than the IL125 crafted gear from the expansion.

That will help greatly as the MSQ fight for Lahabrea was increased in IL Sync back when the lower MSQ trials and dungeons were re-worked (if I remember correctly... If it hasn't, having over-leveled gear does not hurt anyway).

You can also use some buff food, to give you a bit of an edge on damage output and your health, so plus Crit and plus Vitality meals are good.

You said you were avoiding the AOE markers, but also make sure you are avoiding them fast enough.
There is a small delay between safely avoiding the marker and being in it too long so you still get hit even if you have moved away, so pay attention to the timings.
Also, watch the boss and pay attention to what he says and the way he moves, as that will give you clues as to what is about to happen, so you can avoid attacks and AOE's even before the markers are visible.

As a Summoner, your job is to dish out damage faster than you take, in order to win a fight.
So, review your offensive and defensive abilities, and use attacks that do the most damage in the shortest amount of time, and pay attention to your abilities that change or stack to increase it's damage.
If the ability has a cast timer (as in takes a second or more to cast and is not noted as "Instant"), then keep in mind you have to be stationary to cast it.
However, due to lag/ping differences in the various regions vs the server's location, there is a small amount of time nearing the end of a cast time that you can move and not cancel the cast.
So practice casting and then moving, so you can get the feel for how long you have to stay stationary before moving, but still get the ability to work, which will greatly help you when in gets into the "arena dancing" parts of a fight, where you have to dodge attacks, but still keep up your damage output.

So, it looks like in a first step, I will need to invest in completing my gear. I already have one ironworks piece (body I think), but couldn't afford more than one piece. I would have to earn a lot more tomestones to afford full armor. I will start with that.

Thank you for your answers All.

One answer no one seems to have given. Youre a summoner, but have you done all of your job quests? At the end of your level 50 job quest you should get a free set of armor(but not jewelry) far superior to anything you could have earned at level 49. If that isnt enough, then looking for someone to whip up a few upgrades will likely help. A lot of people are working on their crafter levels right now with the new content that dropped in last weeks patch, and any high level crafter should be able to make you whatever you need with little effort.

Edited to add: There is also a set of training you can do(i believe it was with the smith NPC at the inn in your favorite city), it might help with more practice dodging attacks and what have you. If the struggle is more then just being undergeared, then the practice couldnt hurt.

Thanks for your additional input. I honestly don't know. I'm a bit overwhelmed by everything for now...

I will check on that today.

    Hello All

Sorry for double posting, but just to inform: today, I tried for the first time since present thread to confront Lahabrea again. I almost got him! His health bar had only a tiny piece still filled in and I thought that I would finish him within the next seconds, when he suddenly used an incredible powerful AOE that covers everywhere: I could resist it a bit but died after some seconds.

So, it was very frustrating, but at least, it has shown me to important things:
    - I can do it.
    - Health is a key issue in my case. I had no more health potion and due to that, I had less than half my health when he did cast it's horror AOE bomb. With full health, I would have survived it.

So, I feel a lot better and believe I can get this guy down. However, to be honest, I find it quite unfair that it's a solo instance, because of the big part of game content locked behind it. What happens to players who don't achieve to pass it? They miss half of the game content, although paying for it, because they can't be helped since it's solo? Hummm... I believe that there should be an alternative to get helped.

Three things to keep in mind. As a summoner you should be able to resist some hits with your Radiant Aegis ability. If this attack continues to give you trouble you could save a usage of Aegis for it. As for the 2nd idea, it may or may not be worth anything. Look at your stats in whatever gear you ended up in. Up until level 50 casters and healers shared most of their gear(at 50 they start to split, after 50 they are always separate). Your stat is Intelligence, healers use Mind. If you still have some of the shared gear on and your Mind stat is close-ish to your Intelligence, then the level 4 Physick spell will still heal for a slightly usable level. After 50 there is basically no reason to have Physick on your hotbar, the heal will be so weak as to be an insult. But there is a small chance it will still be useful here. Finally, for potions. If possible try to use high quality potions. Healing for a little more is nice, but the real benefit is that they have a shorter re-use timer. High quality on an item is denoted by a little asterisc-like mark after the name, and the "high quality" state is only available for crafted items.

    Good luck!
