I know it might not be the best way but I got some retainers and I want to know how I can make money with them. Should I make them all combat or Botanist or is there any useful guides I can follow?

If it's ventures, it's usually encouraged to have an even number of DoL and DoW/M classes, like for example, I have 5 of my retainers as classes of DoW/M and the other 5 DoL. You also want to send them out on the 18 hour ventures as those are the ones that could bring back very valuable things like the stone partitions and neon lights. Otherwise, my retainers bring me almost 100k worth of Allagan Gold Pieces daily. The mats they bring back, sell them on the MB to make some more Gil or use them to craft things to sell on the MB. Make sure to equip your DoW/M classes with the highest ilv gear since that affects the things they bring back and for DoL classes, make sure they also have the latest gear possible for the same effect. Melding materia for DoW/M classes is not needed but melding Perception to the DoL classes does affect the number of things they bring back, so meld as much Perception materia on all of your DoL class gears. Also, it's ideal to have an even number of DoL classes too, like for example, I have two of my retainers as Botanist, two as Miners and one as a Fisher to sell the mats they bring back from their respective classes. DoW/M classes all bring back from the same loot table.
You can also sell things like crafted gear, food and medicine to make a steady income too.

Do I need to vary the classes or can I do 5 WHM and 5 BTN?
Also, how much do you earn per week/day?

I edited my post about that but here it is again, all DoW/M classes bring back from the same loot table, so just have them all equipped with the highest ilvl gear possible. For the DoL classes, split them evenly with Botanist and Miner having more and even priority, for example, I have five of mine as DoL classes, so I have two Botanist, two Miners and one Fisher. Just make sure all of your DoL classes also have the latest gear possible with Perception materia melded since Perception does affect the number of things they bring back.
Just in Allagan Gold Pieces, I make nearly 100k daily and then the mats they bring back, that depends on what they are selling for on the MB or use them to craft to sell on the MB. The rare times they bring back stone partitions and neon lights, those can sell for millions each while minions sell for less but many of them in the hundreds of thousands of Gil each.

I just have the basic 2, and I do quick ventures every hour. The best item I received was the Calfskin jacket after years of them and black/white dyes from Venture boxes.
Honestly, it's not really a reliable way to make gil over crafting...
That may be true but it's still a source of Gil making that takes minimal effort to dispatch them on their ventures and it's a pleasant surprise to get valuable things like the stone partitions and neon lights. I used to have mine with minimal gear but now equipped them properly and within the last month, I have get three neon lights and a stone partition along with two minions worth at least 10 mil if I sold them. I'm saving the stone partition and neon lights for when the furnishing limit expansion arrives hopefully in 7.3.

battle class > max level > highest available gear ilvl set > Gather 15 each hour of whatever crafting mat is selling decently > sell stacks of 99 for very little effort passive gil income.
