Steam is no longer able to launch the game.

Similar to many others, after updating this morning, I was greeted with a black screened launcher. I figured this might have just been a simple error, so I quit steam to reload it. Only to find that steam could no longer reach the launcher. I (in an anxiety fueled panic) Tried verifying the cache (which is no longer an option I have learned) Tried uninstalling FF14 from steam which could not complete its task. It got stuck on saying "Uninstalling" and never went any further. And finally deleted the game files in my steamapps/common folder and re-downloaded. Only to still be stopped by steam "Finalizing 100%" indefinitely. It can no longer launch from steam.

It did indeed download the microsoft edge...thingy. But that was when the launcher blacked out.

EDIT1: I am on POP OS linux
    Any help would be appreciated.

Same issue. In my case, it installed the runtime and then hanged. Force closing the launcher and then re-launching it through Steam causes it to "launch", but no launcher appears.

    I'm on Linux Mint 22.

Okay, at least it has been replicated. Thank you, and sorry you are in the same stuck position.

To get the Launcher to work in Linux, I had to:

    1) Edit FFXIV_BOOT.CFG and change value of line WebView2RuntimeInvalid from 0 to 1.
    2) Use Protontricks/Winetricks to uninstall WebView2.

The CFG file is in your Proton/Wine prefix for the game. Folder where you can find it is:

    Code:
    <prefix>/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/
(My use case is Arch Linux with Steam version of the game.)

I could never dig deep enough into my computer or online to find WebView2 and uninstall it (I am a newer Linux user.) So I went to a launcher that has been developed for ff14 on Linux specifically. I am going to try it as soon as I can re-download the game. Thanks for the help! I will return to trying the other method if I cannot get this launcher to work.

Thanks a tot. It works for me. I edited FFXIV_BOOT.CFG file likewise in Your 1st point. Instead of uninstalling WebView2 I simply removed microsoft folder from <prefix>/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/
    Thank You a lot!

Can confirm this works. Edit the FFXIV_BOOT.CFG file and change the WebView2RuntimeInvalid from 0 to 1.

This file is in your /home/YOURUSERNAME/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/39210/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn folder.

Then, instead of using Wine to uninstall webview, you can instead go into the /home/YOURUSERNAME/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/39210/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86) folder and look for a folder named 'Microsoft'. Baleet it, and you should be good to go.

I can confirm this also works when using Lutris/WINE instead of Steam.

I'm running on Devuan 5 "Daedalus" (fork of Debian 12, "Bookworm"). Lutris 0.5.12 and using the wine-ge-8-26-x86_64 runner.

Since the update the FFXIV launcher has been trying to install the WebVeiw2 runtime and every time it failed with a X80000003 error. Tried installing Webview2 runtime into the WINE prefix separately but always failed with the same error.

I edited the FFXIV_boot.cfg file as described and for the launcher now starts and behaves the way it used to.

I wasted a few evenings searching other tech forums for a solution. If there is a next time I'll just come here first.

You have my sincere thanks. May the Fates bless you
