This content was advertised as something you can do with your friends.
Not only are a large portion of my friends not from my Home World, they aren't in the same Data Center.
I am not a fan of this decision. What are your thoughts?

It’s because progression is server based as are the superstars
It would be messy to have someone from another server make progress on your server or try to have that apply to their server
I don’t think square really understands that people don’t limit themselves to their own server but this was more advertised as group content, not necessarily do your own thing with your friends
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
This decision is due to the fact it is based on Ishgard Restoration (the Firmament).
In case you weren't around for it, we could visit other worlds' Firmament areas. So we did! And we reached the maximum capacity on each world to steal their FATEs, depriving natives of that world from the rewards.
In order to address this, SE restricted it to homeworlds only. They should remove this restriction after the expansion is over, but they didn't, so it's still there for the Firmament.
Since they are having a similar competition for Cosmic Exploration, that's why they are doing it. There is no reason for it to last longer than the expansion does, but so far precedent says it's permanent.
It would be nice if you could do the activity anywhere but progression go towards your home world (I don't think that you should be able to contribute to another worlds progress). Since friends on different worlds.
Second prize would be the ability to visit, see how far different worlds have progressed, who the leaders are on other worlds.
The majority of friends split across worlds that I personally encounter is because of housing, basically spend most of their time not on their home world as a result.
It's more than just the progress - during the early days of Ishgard Restoration, so many people were coming from other servers that it was filling up the instances and actively blocking home world people from being able to participate in the events. Because of how bad that situation was, I don't think this is a restriction that will be lifted for this or any future restoration type content.
I remember not being able to get in to do the Ishgard Restoration fates on my world because players from other worlds would come over and fill it up on my world. Worse thing ever.
Keeping it to only your world is best.
