Getting to play with my kid

Hey all, thanks ahead of time for your help.

My wife and I have been playing since the beta for ARR (and I've been playing since 1.0), I'm on the Crystal Datacenter and play on the Coeurl server. I have a Free Company that I've been in since ARR.

My youngest son has expressed interest in playing. But my wife and I don't want want to purchase the game and start a monthly fee for him unless he's sure he wants to play. So we figured the free trial would work great for him. My oldest son used the free trial during Shadowbringers, and it worked great. He was able to create a character on our Server.

However, my youngest son has been trying for 2 weeks to get on to our server, it just simply doesn't allow him to select it. My wife and I read a forum post suggesting that we try at odd hours, so we've taken turns waking up very early and trying to create a character on his account on coerul to no avail.

I even tried to use the recruit a friend campaign, but as far as I could tell, we couldn't appear to use it with his Trial account.

Is there any way to get our son onto our server, so we can invite him into our FC, and allow him to play with some friends and family? (His uncle and god parents are in our FC, as are some close family friends). Do we just keep trying and hope that we get lucky?

Coeurl is currently Congested, this means that no characters can be created there. This status is only changed by the devs during patches. The trying at odd hours thing only works for non congested servers experiencing soft locks to character creation due to lots of players being logged in during prime time.

Your son can create a character on a non congested server and you can play with him using the world visit system, or you can wait until Coeurl is no longer set to congested but we have no way of knowing when the devs will change that status.

Thank you so much for your reply! I'll look into the world transfer, and if it doesn't suit what we are looking for, I'll just bite the bullet and pay for an account. As I understand it, we can get him on the server with the recruit a friend (hopefully that's right!)

Or make him a character in same same data centre but different server.he can always travel to your server when required

To my knowledge Recruit a Friend will not bypass the server congestion. I hope world visit will suit your needs, or that the devs will change the congestion status on Coeurl soon.

Edit: Just thought I'd add a clarification that world visit is not the same as a server transfer. World Visit is free and lets you play on any server on your data center with some restrictions like not being able to access your retainers while not on your home server. Server transfer is a paid service that moves your character to a new server and makes it their home server. Server transfers cannot be used to bypass congestion status.

If the world is any status other than Congested, then sometimes making a character at odd hours works.

If the world is Congested (which Coeurl is), then you cannot make new characters on it period, nor transfer to it.

The only way to play on Coeurl right now is make the character on a different world and world visit to it. They can make a character on Coeurl at some future date when Congested status is removed at one of the patches, but we don't know how many weeks or months that will be. It could even be next Tuesday.

Hello, Coeurl is currently congested, it has absolutely nothing to do with your account/him being your son etc.
Check FFXIV server status you can see it is congested. Tomorrow is maintenance, it should be reset. Until then unfortunately you have to wait for Coeurl to be open again.

The info have always been foggy about congestion. I once could not create a character on a prefered world, and it took me far too long to get the right informations.

There is 2 type of congestions :

- First there is the congested status, that can be checked here : https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/worldstatus/
If a world is marked as congested, you cannot create a new character. Even during down hours.

- Then there the usual congestion, when too many character are connected on the server. This can happen on standard and prefered world. You cannot check it on the website. This is the congestion that can be avoided by creating a character during odd hours (it's the congestion the line "*The creation of new characters may also be restricted on other Worlds, depending on the level of congestion." is about on the worldstatus page).

So you won't be able to create a character on coeurl until they change the status of the server. It could change tomorrow like it could change in 2 month.
