Magic Evasion? Why not Magic DEF ?

hello everyone, while i was checking the new 2.0 screenshots, i noticed that "Magic Evasion" was still one of the stats, now i know that they might change that later, but they also might NOT.

and i think people talked about this before, but forgive me, couldnt help myself to talk about it again since its really important =)

what's the difference between Magic Evasion & Magic DEF ?
well, Magic EVA means that there's a CHANCE that you might not get hit by a magical attack at all, or a CHANCE for reduced dmg. or - with the current system we have in 1.23a - it does nothing at all ^_^

while Magic DEF is a dmg reduction based on a formula, with a very little room for chance.

    Why Magic DEF ?
lets say you're fighting a tough boss, one of his magical attacks hits you for 2,000 dmg, by getting some gear with Magic DEF+ you can reduce that dmg, up to the point where you know how much he will always be dealing

Why we dont want Magic EVA ?
for the simple reason its based on pure luck, or rather a RNG (Random Number Generator), and no matter what they do to it in 2.0, it will still be based on a RNG, which is our main enemy in this game....

i tried to make this thread as simple as i could, and im really looking forward for an answer from the DEVs (if possible), why Magic EVA, not Magic DEF ?

    Thank You

Magic evasion/DEf same thing. Magic can be fully evaded or part evaded. It would be the same thing for magic def. You resist _____ Thunder. You part resist _____ Thunder. Same thing.

Right now magic evasion is your chance to resist a magical attack. there are 4 levels of evasion to my knowledge.

single resist (take like 75% damage)
double resist (take like 50% damage)
Triple resist (take like 25% damage)

The important thing to take away here is it is variable

magic defense, on the other hand, which is essentially our elemental resistance, takes a chunk off of the damage we take regardless of resist.

This system is fine. once the elemental wheel/star/diamond/whatever gets fixed it will become more clear on how to mitigate magic damage i think.

I thought defense accounted for magic defense as well now too?

i know how it works, it was just a figure of speech
i did NOT try buffing a lot on M.EVA, but im yet to see someone tank Chimera with a M.EVA set.

with decent gear (without M.EVA on it), i think i might resist like 1 spell out of 500 (if im lucky).

the TL;DR version of my thread is, why shoukd it be based on a RNG ? (yes, i know RNG is a HUGE thing in the game).

true, but how often do you resist a spell from a tough boss ?
and yeah, it would be nice if they do that :3

M Eva doesn't work well on bosses the same reason Def doesn't work well on bosses: The level difference is too great that it doesn't make much of a difference at all.
