I strongly agree with you on this point, their behavior feels like they are disrespecting the culture of the country.
adding support to the op with full agreement that these piece should be labeled correctly. it comes across as even more tone deaf and insulting when korean players asked for you guys to get rid of the far eastern school boy / girl attires for historical reasons.
This is just so ridiculous when you think about the fact that Japan once colonized Korea. The translation definitely needs to be changed.
I support this thread. I hope it will be ffxiv that respects different cultures like the story they cover in this Dawntrail.
I agree. I don't think we should undermine what Korean tradition is. Please revise the explanation
Thank you OP, for speaking this out,
This remind me of incident back in 2019 when chinese service provider used expressions that reminded colonial period of the japanese empire right before they started WW2 to some of other asian users while promoting far eastern schoolboy/girl's uniform on weibo, which really pissed off korean XIV community, so sqex had to swear that they'll permanently ban the attire for the korean services if they hate it so much,
And Yoshida P promised that this sort of incident WILL NOT RECUR.
But now, the english(plus other western languages) localization has made him into a liar
This time, they can't even blame other provider company since SQEX itself directly serves all over the americas, europe, and oceania
I'm fairly disappointed, but not very surprised since this isn't the first, second, nor third time I've felt the stench of orientalism in english scripts that makes EN/JA/KR trilingual asian cringe.
For the love of *Kami*, I really do love english localized in-game scripts more than any other language version, however, these disgusting orientalistic-mindset of mixing japanese words everywhere in very uncanny way must be halted!
Can we please start from using the right terms 'Jeogori', 'Baji' and 'Gatsin', or at least good ol' plain 'Top', 'Bottoms', 'Shoes'? Thank you.

Please give me a proper description of the outfit, and I hope you correct this error.
Supporting the thread, and hoping they fix the description and the names of the clothing. They put a lot of effort in Dawntrail to be culturally appropiate and using proper native names, so they should and must start doing the same for anything inspired by Asian cultures.
Adding a +1 to this thread. Dawntrail showed that the team can be respectful of multiple cultures, and this seems like a step backwards. Please fix it.
