+1. This is a highly insensitive take on the Korean-inspired attire, one that-- given Dawntrail's careful respect for other cultures-- feels inexcusable. Please revise the text.

Strongly supporting to this op, I am also a Korean user who was actually a Pungmulnori performer at the univerisity club. Pungmulnori the motif of Far Eastern Performer's Attire, is one of Korea's representative traditional cultural arts that gives joy and energy to Koreans from the past to the present. I am very happy that this costume will serve as an opportunity for Pungmulnori to be known to FFXIV users all over the world.

However, it's very regrettable that some of the description, such as the phrases 'authentic Hingan stage mask' and the phonetic translation 'dogi, kyakui, and zori', seems to show that the attire is of Japanese culture, WHILE IT ISN'T. I omit mention of the historical background of Korea described by many other users on this thread, but because of that, these phrases even felt like our identity was totally being ignored.

Please remove 'Hingan' from the description and change 'dogi, kyakui, and zori' into 'tops, bottoms, and shoes' in accordance with the general style of English. Or, change 'dogi, and zori' to 'Jeogori and Mituri' as traditional Korean names.

It would be also great if "Pungmulnori" can be included in the name of the costume as a proper noun, since it certainly has a high connection with the actual Pungmulnori.

Isn't it too naive to sum up a lot of Asian-culture-motivated costumes with just a SINGLE word 'Far-Eastern' and not showing enough about the original motif when writing down their descriptions? This is an issue for all FFXIV servers that are not EN specific.

Obviously as a globalized company serving games all over the world, I hope Square Enix to be more careful about launching any costume that takes ideas from the cultures and traditions that exist in the REAL world. And also wish that the beginning is to update the description of Far Eastern Performer's Attire.

+1. With Dawntrail showing how to respect different cultures, this is the least loc team (or even production/marketing if shop descriptions are on their end) could do, and should do.

while in-game Far East has general representations of predominantly east Asian cultures, this item set was designed by the Korean team to share their culture with the global playerbase.

for their intentions to be erased by the store description seems frankly very lazy and insensitive, not to mention it being replaced by Japanese-specific clothing terms makes it extra tone-deaf.

the Mogstation has many eastern outfits that the game itself lacks. to make players pay extra for them and then having this mistake(?) is a jarring sight

Adding my support to this thread! I agree with Original poster and replies. It’s very easy to respect others cultures and call it what it really is. Please correct the items name.

I agree with the thread starter and others.
They are all lumped together as "Far Eastern", but I think it's strange to use Japanese terms like "Dogi" and "Kyakui" even though they are not Japanese clothing.
I was curious so I looked into other Far Eastern Attire,

Far Eastern Officer's Bottoms (written as Haidate in French)
Far Eastern Maiden's Bottoms

    These use the word "Bottoms".

Far Eastern Gentleman's Haidate
Far Eastern Beauty's Koshita

But these also use Japanese terms, so I think they should be written differently.
    Thank you in advance.

I was very impressed with the way they respect various cultures at Dawntrail. Naturally, Korean culture should also be respected. Please revise the name of the item.

Also adding my support for the OP! I don’t have anything of value to add that hasn’t already been said by others more eloquently than I could—but I can’t figure out how to “upvote” on mobile*, so leaving a reply instead.

    * It’s probably operator error. I’m active in discussion on other platforms but rarely use these forums in more than a read-only manner.

I took one look at the set and recognized it as Korean. Previous Korean-inspired fashions didn't refer to specific in-game regions, please either stick to that or change it to their original Korean terms.
