Nobuo does pretty good at capturing the atmosphere of an area I consider Naoshi Mizuta the ff11 composer to also be pretty good at capturing the magic and atmosphere of a zone. I think soken is good and composed good music also but I feel dawntrails music all over the place.

But is Jazz truly the only type of music to bring different instruments together? I don't know, I heard folk concerts before bring out 4 or 5 different instruments.

If you close your eyes, you cannot tell at all that this is the musical theme of a South American-inspired location, Tulliyolal. That's the furthest thing from thematic cohesion because it completely breaks immersion and pulls the player out of the world.

If soken wanted to do a jazz piece he should have went with Latin American jazz not New Orleans 1920's style big band/swing music which Latin jazz would have been more fitting considering dawntrail was suppose the be the South/Central American expansion which is why I said it doesn't fit tuliyolla thematically. They could have also done a full orchestral piece which would have brought more instrument together to musically represent a South American sound.

Idk what to tell you. It didn't break my immersion whatsoever. The theme actually intensified my immersion as I explored every nook and cranny of the city. Also, Latin Jazz exists, which is very close to Tulliyolals night theme.
Instead of pulling the "iT dOeSn'T fIt" card, you guys should just admit that you dislike jazz in general.

Edit to add: Doesn't matter either way. I think you guys are wrong, you guys think I am wrong. You dislike the themes, I'm in love with them. It's an argument that goes nowhere so this is my last response. Have a good one.

I agree, Smile was totally fitting with the bomb building scene and people are blind. It was meant to symbolize exploding with happiness, breaking barriers between people. Soken is an actual genius.

I do agree that the night theme is more pleasant and less agressive than the daylight theme, but still jarring. Frankly, I was expecting the instrumental Dawntrail theme to be the go-to in the musical genre for one of our main cities this expansion. You know, the one when they first showcased the expansion jobs. Drums, guitar, the hand clapping. I would've loved hearing new instruments too.

In the end, the themes we got for Tulliyolal sink the worldbuilding a tad lower

I don't get why people are picking on Tuliyollal's big band music, when Soken rescored Ul'dah so now there is royal Disney castle music playing for an Islamic city, but I have never seen anyone complain about that. JRPG music is about vibes, not realism. Ul'dah's music gets across the idea of a romantic good kingdom you want to be a part of, and Tuliyollal the idea of a bustling relaxed city.

Night-time Lakeland (Unchanging, Everchanging) is super lovely tho, reminds me of George Winston.

I've said this before, but Civilizations (La-hee) is a funny meme, but I kinda hate the track. Whenever I have to gather in Rak'Tika, I make a point to go during the night.

For Tuliyolal, my main issue is how alien the music feels to the city. THIS is what the city should have sounded like. Imagine if you arrived at Kugane and the main BGM was some random K-Pop track cause "uh... Asian, right?" or something like that. It's like they didn't even try.

The safe haven theme in Northern Thanalan is "Machinations". I don't long for the days of pre-HW music.

... And this is where it all goes wrong.
Because they will listen and now there is a whole swaith of music we will never get at all.
When instead there should be some way that when they do come up with an amazing song like the Tuliyolal jazz, that they should concede maybe an extra song is needed to break it up.
Maybe they need to get a guest in to ease the load on Soken.
But no. They will listen in the wrong way, and now those of us that LOVE the tuliyolal jazz, like those of us that LOVE jobs to be challenging even without having to do ultimates, will lose out. :-(
