Glad to be of help
The localization team for FF14 is pretty good at coming up with the various "regional speaks" for the areas in game that are represented, a bit often stereo-typically, to the "real earth" areas, customs, and speech that the in game area mirrors.
So, think of:
- Limas = Iberian Penninsula in the reference frame of 1600's-ish navel and pirate styles, but for some reason, most of the people are from cockney London
- La Noscea = Inland Mediterranean, with a mix of inland Spain and Portugal of the same time period as Limas... Oh, and dat wine
- Gridania and the Black Shroud = Late medieval, mid pagan era Germanic / Black Forest and toss in a spoonful of Celtic
- Ul'dah and Thanalan = Old North African / Moroccan, and a bit of Andalusia, all ran by potatoes
- Ishgard = Papal era France, Switzerland, and Austria, with heavy on the crusades themes, except the dragons are the target and for some reason there is a bit of UK influence ( damn you Monty Python!!!
)
- Gyr Abania = Eastern Europe, localized kingdoms era, nearing that era's end
- Othard = Asia, with Yanxia and Doma being Nara-era Japan, Ruby Sea being the Sea of Imperial Japan (eastern) with Hingashi / Kugane as a bit later Japan closer to Edo-era, Azim Steppe being tribal Mongolia
- Thavnair and Radz-at-Han = India (but some of their monsters and tribes went to Ala Migho and Azim... for reasons...)
- Sharlayan = Enlighten era Greece, but they all got shipped to Iceland
- Garemald = Sort of a slush of pre-soviet Russian orthodox zealotry and Ancient Rome society, but with almost-giant robots!!!
With Dawn Trail we get all three Americas (South, Central, and North America), with a era span from ancient Myian and Aztec, to post-Spain Yucatan and Mexico, to US "cowboy" era West, with a sprinkling of ....maybe... Logan's Run and clone-wars old Star Wars for Heritage Found, Living Memory, and Solution 9.
So, when you run across some wording or phases that seem "wrong", just take a step back and think of yourself in that in game area's "earthly" area, and how did and do people there talk or act.
