What are the "generic battle shouts" inspired by?

The generic battle shouts used by various characters, both allies and enemies, have always seemed odd to me and they just keep getting reused for more and more different characters, so it's not even explainable as one individual's quirk. Things like "There!" and "Try this!" just sound like strange choices, and even things like "Taste my steel" get used so many times it loses its edge.

Where do these come from to be treated as the ideal things that everyone wants to shout in battle?

Is it a Japanese thing that has been translated too literally?

Is it American English that sounds odd to other English speakers?

Is it a reference to something particular?

I've always just taken it as a way of adding some colour to the NPCs when they fight with you, it doesn't sound so much odd as cheesy to my ears. I'd venture a guess it was a JP decision and they've followed suit on the ENG side, translating it as naturally as they can, but without any examples I can't really say.

I don't really know what you would say during a fight anyway, apart from a lot of grunting. Which would probably sound even weirder.

I don't find any of the choices odd individually, but it does feel strange to me that so many of the Trust NPCs share the same lines. Alisaie, Estinien, Aymeric, and Ryne (at least; I may be missing some) all say "You underestimate me!" which is just so... specific.

According to this Google Sheet, they're not all the same line in Japanese, so I do wonder how that decision was made.

This is probably one of the few times I wish the English version was closer to how it is in the other three languages. As the english spoken lines during fights aren't even just shared amongst characters but they also have the least amount of grunts. It's not even a XIV thing as I feel that it is an industry things. Where it comes to battle lines let alone grunts English versions will always have less of them and end up having many lines shared amongst other characters. It's how anyone who has played at least the 1st two Mass Effect games will meme with "I will destroy you!" due to how often you heard it during fights let alone "Go! Go! Go!".
