Thread: 2.0 Grass: please change!

I thought this thread was a joke, but damn...people ned to get a life or just stop trying to find something to whine about.

Amen! Grass looks good to me

The wildlife/grass in those screenshots look way better than my lawn right now.
If I step on it, it busts into pieces. No amount of water can save it. I'm giving up until next year.

Anyways. When I play FFXIV the last thing I really look at is the ground. Why? Cause it's repetitive. I care way more about being able to see the monsters and players. Now I've taken the moment to actually look at the grass really hard for the first time in FFXIV and it's really not that bad. They use a multiple amount of tricks to make the grass/dirt/rocks that are flat seem to have a little bit of weight to it. I don't know how they do it but it's brilliant because it never bothered me.

The things that did bother me initially were the giant rocks that look identical or "copy/pasted". Even then I wouldn't be so upset about having the same rock placed multiple times on a map, just make them smaller or bigger with a handful variety and then I won't notice it. I think though if they reused the same "ground" or whatever it is I'm looking at... grass, dirt, rocks, leaves, etc... the game would be fine.

And in regards to the previous problems I had with the rocks? After the first few weeks of running past those rocks, I never really noticed them again. I was too busy trying to get from place to place or chatting with friends to care about that rock that had bothered me.

So when people say to spend time/money/effort on something I barely even noticed I can't help but be amused.

It's fine to have the opinion that you hate the grass and want the game to be better--but if Square spends time on fixing this grass over other things that need to be fixed for launch or extend the beta for grass even longer than most are projecting, I might flip tables. Thankfully, Yoshi-P is in charge and he seems to be sensible even without sleep.

i just want to say this one thing... just because you dont want your crappy computer to lag dosnt mean we should have to live with poorly graphic designed concepts for the rest of our lives.... You might as well play runescape.. for... ever.... if you dont mind terrible graphics.. im sick and tired of hearing its ok to make awful graphics so that we are all lag free.. F THAT. PAY FOR A HIGHER PERFORMANCE MACHINE. WHATEVER IT TAKES. but its no excuse to create sub par landscape. and.. by the way.. you have the choice to turn down the graphics.

Personally, I'm tired of hearing about the grass. It looks FINE to me, I dont always stop and just stare at it, but the mass amounts of threads from the other day made me do just that. Does the 2D grass bother me? No. They'll probably pattern it out like they have done in v1.0 and it'll all be ok! So let's all just settle down, grab a cup of coffee or tea, and look forward to jumping chocobos ;p
