Wearing full AF will work just fine for a while, but don't expect to get much success from Darklight and garuda runs in AF armor. You'll be good enough for Skirmish, Ifrit and Moogle, though. As well as things like Caravans and other light events.

Use Felt Bracers only if you don't need the 3 VIT the Mitts give. That's how I see it.
Hmm i see but then what are the stat caps? @_@
And no i am only a storm corporal right now so still a long ways to go in that respect...
Also i thought ifrit and mog where supposed to be like the end game stuff?!
Ah im stupid kagato said what the caps where in his first post >.< sorry!!
Also is the sentinel set good or just the boots? happened to pick up the belt and gloves exping some gear to turn into materia

I personally use a double STR melded sentinels gloves and blew up a sentinels belt tryin to triple meld it.
Put a single STR materia IV in them, and use them until you can afford to do fancy things with your gil.
Also, the sentinel boots can easily be duo'ed. Just grab a buddy and walk in (not in party) kill the far right caster, walk past everyone till you get to the back right side (will see a 3 stack of sacks next to the chest). Aggro the Feratear (sp?) DD attacks from behind, easy peasy.
Just watch that shadowsear. I find its best to have a PLD tank it due to sentinel taking the edge off that crazy shadowsear, and just spam heal himself. (typically I just tank it on my pld and bring a buddy who can DD, such as a DRG, but you can do the DD and bring a pld buddy)
Don't AoE and good luck!

350/310 range for Mog/Ifrit (39.7dps weapons) and 360/320 range for Lt. weapons. They are end game stuff, there is just better end game stuff as they are coming on a year old pretty soon. I would work on either, but preferably Mog as far as Axe goes. You'll still need to save your seals up to spend on your 2LT rank, and any gear you may want to buy (Earrings/bracelet for storm? dunno)
Felt Bracers are better any time you play more than one job, as they are great for MNK/DRG/WAR. If you're going for a triple meld as a new player, it's best to make it count for as many classes as possible and again, VIT is incredibly easy to cap for WAR. Expect to go 1/20~30, so plan accordingly as you save gil up.

Easiest Setup to start with:
GC Weapon, or Moogle Axe
Explorers Sabatons (+7 Vit, 75 Defense, +80HP) (Generally really cheap in wards, like 20k)
Cobalt Gauntlets (aim for at least 28 STR melded)
Cobalt Cuirass (Vit Meld)
AF Helm
Felt Trousers (aim for at least 14 STR, 16 Vit)
Accessories: Anything to increase Accuracy, STR, ENM. High accuracy is good on War.
This should work for DDing, and Tanking until you find the need to upgrade.

Sentinel's Sabatons are best in slot and are free if you farm them, they just take some time to get. You'll also get some tapers for ifrit while farming them. Single meld a pair with HP until you can get a pair of double melded ones.Easiest Setup to start with:

I still like the Explorers Sabatons cause of the higher defense, vitality, and HP, and there's usually like 80 for sale in the wards. So they're dirt cheap.
Though the Sentinels Sabatons are nice with double melds

The extra enmity is really nice for WAR. It's laughably easy to cap VIT with the sentinel's sabatons, so any gained from the Explorer's ones is really a waste IMO.
