Disciple of Land Secondary Tool's and Viel Materia?

Considering Disciple of Land secondary tool's only meld with veil materia, does anyone have any clue on what the relationship between element resistance and off hand gathering is? I'm forced to believe there is one... Otherwise why?

Skewing your elemental resistance in favor of one element will increase the likeliness of getting shards of that element while gathering. If you're in a region already favoring the element you're raising resistance for, you get nothing but those shards. For example, if you use +wind resistance items/materia while gathering in La Noscea, you only get wind shards. I assume it has something to do with that, haven't seen other effects from elemental resistance on gathering personally.

I sometimes stick weak veil materia on SB off-hand tools if I want to control what shards I get.

I see, thanks for sharing. Would the veil materia on the off-hand effect main hand gathering's crystals as well?

You only obtain shards from main hand gathering, never from off hand.

And it doesn't matter where your influence on elemental resistance is coming from - whether it's an earring, or materia in your off hand tool, or anything else you might get with +elemental resistance.
