    Not saying it's dysfunctional, only that it means that tank potency =\= melee potency =\= aiming potency =\= caster potency =\= healing potency, which is unnecessarily odd compared to having all potency have the same effectiveness (i.e., same output, pre-buffs, at a given stat value).

    There's nothing weird about potency increases being locked into traits. Every upgrade is a trait, be it reflected in the tooltips (everything except % modifiers) or not (literally just those % modifiers).

    Yeah this feeds into the whole "tooltips need a massive do-over"-problem, what with the inconsistent wording and weird way extra effects get referenced that have no explanation anywhere. Might as well transparently fold potency increases/updates/evolutions into them, at that point.

    If you want potency weirdness, Dark Knight's Living Shadow uses DPS potencies as its unaffected by the hidden 20% damage nerf of Tank Mastery for whatever reason.
    Which is why its base 570 Shadowbringer is stronger than the shadowbringer cast by the Dark Knight themselves


    But anyway I'd personally love to see Tank Mastery deleted, make it so at the very least tanks have to properly manage their cooldowns to keep up the defense game. Given I think a lot of the high end content in this game would have to be rebalanced for that, which theres no way SE will ever do.

    Not quite as funny, but certainly a more impactful obfuscation: There's no in-game notice of the whopping 40|60|80% damage modifier on Astral Fire III, nor that Ice/Fire damage is penalized by 10% per level of the opposite elemental aura while MP costs are decreased by 50|50|100%.

    Aetherial balance of mind and spirit is leaning astrally. Fire-aspected spells require more MP, but do more damage. Ice-aspected spells require less MP, but do less damage. MP regeneration has stopped.
    That's it. No percentages. No indicator of the non-linear nature of two-thirds of the effects, or technically even that additional ranks upgrade them.

    Imagine if old Fight and Flight likewise said, "Increases your damage, but only for certain of your abilities." The core BLM mechanic provides roughly the same level of detail compared to what it should... and now even provides no actual visible status effect anyways to mouse over.

    There is also no Indication that Flare and Despair cost AT LEAST 800 MP, it only says ALL

    Their whole UI has always been either very poorly intuitive or consciously obfuscated. The game won't even tell you your actual % crit rate or defensive damage reduction, you have to go to third party websites like Allagan Studies to check out how it translates for your stats.
    It's funny in a way because they make everything they can to water down jobs and battle mechanics because "people too dumb to understand" but then there is literally this.

    but thanks to technology, this isnt an issue.

    I really wonder what the devs are thinking when it comes to such basic things and why they don't add them to the game

    The layout itself is antiquated too. Every job's unused stats (MP/Dexterity/Mind/Intelligence/etc.) should be hidden now.

    Because none of it matters?

    You acquire the highest ilvl gear you can and hit "Recommended Gear." Or else you look up BiS on some website or Discord.

    Maybe the one person who figures out BiS might benefit from a bit more detail.
