I think I was the only person in my friend group to recognize the Pelupelu. And I mostly remember them from X-2 due to the character Tobli being involved in some sidequests.

Well, II may not be in my Top 10 FFs, but The Emperor is certainly on my Top 5 Villains. What can I say? I love flamboyant bad guys.

Honestly I think FFII gets a bad rap, and I do love parts of it; Laila still deserves more love than she gets, the leveling system is really fun once you get past the versions with skill-downs, and I know I also celebrate every time Minwu gets rep in something (he's getting at least one card in the MtG set and I might have to get it). But I feel like it doesn't have 'fans' so much as a general collective respect and enjoyment.

The magus sisters weren’t even important in FFX and Anima was also just hyped up through fan speculation and theorizing.
It never was important enough to deserve an entire raid in my opinion, even in its original game.
At that point in EW we were also way past the point of primals being these big and dangerous things and dungeon bosses were the perfect spot for them given that NPC’s had defeated primals already on their own and now even tempering wasn’t that big of a danger anymore.
It was also the expansion where the trials were Zodiark and Heidi and those were leagues above in primalness. Magus sisters wouldn’t have fit as a trial imo.

    @topic
    I never got it.
At what point is a reference good enough to make the fans of that specific game happy?
According to some FFVII fans I encountered it seems we need an entire expansion with the plot of that game even if that title already got a final boss, expies, the gold saucer and a raid series.
FFIX is also handled fine in DT (and I am glad it’s fans are more level headed from what I have seen).
We got references and expies. That’s enough imo and by far better than a copy paste like FFIV was.

    So long story short:
    No, Yoshida doesn’t hate FFIX.
That title got the same amount of love as other titles and besides DT isn’t even over.
I am pretty sure they will dumb a Necron boss in like they did with Zeromus, no matter if it fits.

The Seventh Umbral Calamity / Meteor storyline that closed out Legacy was a very loose adaptation of VII, making Nael a Sephiroth adaptation in turn. So VII has two final bosses to its credit in this game, even if you can't go back to fight one of them anymore.

Even as a big fan of VII, I don't support cut and pastes. Even reusing the Weapon designs (with some modifications and bells and whistles the originals didn't have) was kind of pushing the envelope.

We have one patch to go (back on the regular cycle with X.3 closing out the current arc after 6.X's IV adaptation), and they kind of already did a Necron with the Endsinger. You could even say that Fandaniel (in his Amon persona) bears more than a few similarities to Kuja, being a flamboyant genius with a penchant for theatrics who puppeteers a war, seeks the power of the setting's ultimate Summon, does a suicide move to end existence, fails, and is given sympathy in spite of everything he's done at the very end (if you pick the right option).

That said I will not at all be surprised if Calyx's big plan is making a Necron primal out of Alexandrians' fear of death (as opposed to the Endsinger being the desire for it).

I don't think that it'll be exactly that, but I do think that we're paving a way to a distinct-from-Endsinger Necron. We're playing a lot with an institutionalized and yet abstract fear of death, there's absolutely call for a Necron sometime soon.

My theory isn't 'primal', but rather something borne from the dead; that the Endless conglomerate into Necron... somehow. Basically making a Zodiark that actually does scream in anguish and regret of its situation, rather than the actual Zodiark whose constituent souls were more going 'we were okay with sacrificing our life to a plan that worked, why is this one failing'.
