The Destruction of Reward Systems

I have personally quit FFXIV multiple times due to the weird reward system that has been plaguing this game since 2.0. I'll give 2 examples but I'm sure most people can understand what I mean:

I remember grinding for 2 to 3 months straight to get my PVP rank to max just so I could wear the Rising Dragon set, which was only wearable if you achieved that feat. I thought the set was SO COOL and it showed how hard you worked and it meant something. Just by seeing someone with that set, you knew what they had spent their time on and it could even lead to a conversation in game.
Less than 1 month after all my grinding, they removed the rank requirement from the set and only required pvp currency. WHY?? What was the point???

This same sort of thing applies to a lot of mounts. Again, a trophy or sorts. Like hey guys, you worked really hard to grind out a mount from a EX trial? That's great, but we're going to just give it away so the mount has little to no meaning anymore. No backstory. You could have just received it from the Mog event or something, who cares anymore right?

tl;dr Trophies in this game are reduced to nothing of meaning and it turns the whole game into glamour bloat.

Do you have an example of where you felt screwed over by the re-release or freeing of a reward?

This is the nature of the live-service video game, frankly. You can't get too attached to the feeling of specific achievements -- especially in a vertical-progression game like this one -- because the tendency over time is to simplify the acquisition of stuff as the total pool of stuff to acquire in the game grows.

The only reason they've left PvP as the sole time exclusive reward in the game is how of desperation. Originally, they wanted to get into the eSports scene, but even getting people to actually play PvP proved immensely difficult due to how poorly they've handled it. Without those gated rewards, Feast/CC would be thoroughly and completely dead and they know it.

Sounds like you only care about bragging rights. For that you gotta stay on top of the game, if you wanna prove you're the very best then you cant rest on ancient laurels.

TBH it's an MMO like how everything old will be recycled again, including old gear and it's better this way over general FOMO.

getting all the season 1+2 reward items requires you to get an amount of trophy crystals, that equals reaching rank 25 during 2 seasons

noone gets it for "nothing"

Yeah, I experienced the same with my Fenrir mount. I was grinding the 1 mio MGP out back in early HW and then they added the challenge log entries, glamour report and whatever and now people are swimming in MGP and the Fenrir has lost all it's prestige.

If you want rewards that last then you have to look at achievment rewards. If it's tied to an achievment then it likely will not get nerfed. Like the mounts from the hunt, some titles etc.

It will be ok. Its only roulette. As for the feast changes though, that squarely falls to blame the win-trade crowd they're to blame for that crap and the reason to blame.
