I think one of the big problems is that not everyone feels the same way (understandably) about the Scions. Not everyone feels like their WoL is super best friends with them, but it seems like the writers are afraid to put any of the Scions truly at odds with the WoL perhaps out of fear of alienating people that like particular Scions... which is probably why the bait about Scions vs Scions in DT ended up being a fakeout.

Rather than continually trotting out the Scions every two seconds into the MSQ though, if they want a character that feels connected to the WoL on the level of a companion they should bring back the concept of the Path Companion.
Back in 1.0 you could customize the Path Companion to look how you wanted and I think there was an aspect of adjusting its personality too.

This wouldn't be the same path companion per se, but make some plot development like this: The Scions are officially disbanded by end of EW, but the WoL still needs help now and then keeping the world at peace, so he/she revisits the Path of the Twelve organization and sees who is still loyal to that group to look for representatives to help him/her keep an eye on worldwide developments. During that process the WoL decides to choose someone in particular to act as their second-in-command, a companion who may sometimes travel with them on missions but also serves as an intermediary for other groups to keep the WoL connected to important events and news around the world.

In this recruitment process, your WoL would be allowed to "recruit" (aka customize) a Path Companion, customize them like you would with a retainer and select one of two or three personality traits to affect their speech. They should also have voiced lines in relevant MSQ missions like any other NPC, which would require a few variations, but in the grand scheme of things a character like this that the player has such control over creating would be ideal and would let us make someone who we could feel actually was a true friend of the WoL, rather than a bunch of Scions we are forcefully friended to with no input on their characterization. It honestly makes more sense that we would come across someone like a Path Companion far more frequently than forcing the Scions back onstage every other mission, and it would add a little uniqueness to how we each view our own WoL's personality and preferences through that Path Companion.

Problem there is the simple metaphysics of reality. The Source always gets stronger at the expense of other shards. So to find a shard where everyone was VASTLY more powerful than the WoL would come off as a hamfisted lore-breaking ass pull. If they were going to weaken the WoL it should have happened at the conclusion of EW, but we're WAY past the exit now, no throwing it in reverse and backing up the plot highway now.

I legitimately thought this was what Arenvald was going to be. He was practically being set up as our apprentice. Both him and Fordola were, in different ways. Both of them needed to learn how to better use the Echo/Resonance. Arenvald was willing to jump in the fray to protect people, sure, but he needed to see a veteran in action and learn self-confidence from them. Fordola needed to learn about the Echo and how it influences our perception of the world, i.e. learn to see things through other people's eyes... a lesson in the empathy she was denied from people as a child. I was certain ONE of them at least was going to be bumped up to regular cast member status, but... nope. They both got shoved off in a role quest and we shuffled right on with the same cast. I would have loved for them to continue the pattern of introducing new regular members of the main cast. To be fair we did gain Krile (DT), G'raha (EW), and Estininen(also EW). We just should have balanced that out by rotating some of the cast in and out.

A lot of the issues people have with a lack of involvement of the Scions really comes down to this.

    They are complete characters....

Part of that is Wuk Lamat but another half of that is trying to include Scions who don't need to be around in the story right now.
We've disagreed on some other things, but I'm 100% with you on this post. Agree fully with everything you said. I really do feel like Thancred should have died. He's come to terms with F'lahminn and especially Minfillia, he's raised another "Minfillia" he can be proud of. His emotional arc is as over as it gets. He should have either kicked it in Ultima Thule or just settled down with F'lahminn or something. Urianger's emotional arc over Moenbryda is over, now that he's come face to face with her parents and grieved over her. It would have been thematically appropriate for him to remain on the Moon, with the Loporitts that share Moenbryda's upbeat and cheerful personality, and learning as much as he could from the Observer. Maybe those two could come back at some point or another, but truthfully they don't really have much plot thread to weave anything out of now.

Y'shtola is the only one of the Big 3 whose plot is still ongoing, and so she's perfectly fine to be here, though her lack of enthusiasm about the Thunderdome was a bit uncharacteristic during 7.0.

The Twins have literally no reason to be here. They contributed nothing, and learned nothing because they haven't experienced anything that they haven't already seen before, unless they're going to pick a new ruler of Garlemald with an elaborate Easter Egg hunt. In fact, given the fact that Alisaie didn't really interact with the sick kid and didn't really seem to want to look after the poor little oprhan urchin kid that she's usually such a sucker for( see: Ga Bu, Halric....), their characterization seems to have actually taken a few steps BACKWARDS.

I don't think people would have been nearly as annoyed with the story of DT if they had simply given those characters a breather and just let the newer cast have more room to shine.

Totally in agreement with you here.

I'm of two minds about this. Contrary to what some people might think, I actually love the Scions. Not only that I myself personally like them, my WoL also love and consider the Scions as his found family. But I also hate how boring they have become ever since EW.

I was hopeful that DT would make them fun again since yoshi-p teased how the scions will compete with each other (yes, I know it would be a fun competition between them), yet that doesn't happen either. What's worse, Krile is sidelined so bad she isn't that much relevant to the story even though this is supposed to be her expansion as well.

It's a very frustrating situation, because I know the Scions still have the potential. Now, I get that almost all of them have completed their character arc and received closure, but honestly I think it won't be a problem if they still have negative trait or even regress back, so long that it is acknowledged (so people won't think that it is a bad writing/retcon/etc). After all, people irl don't change too much and most will repeat the same mistakes.

But alas, I doubt things will improved in future expansions judging by how they handle DT and 7.x patches so far.

*Also, they need to stop playingg favourite with graha again, it's super annoying and I'm tired of that catboy.

I say keep the scions, but swap them with the eight "B team" scions.

I must be one of the few people who want to keep the Scions, they are the WoL's friends the closest thing we have to a family and some people just want them to die off or replace them?! I'd rather keep them in the story as to me at least they are important to the story and the Warrior of Light

Same. They are my WoL's clan, and I would hate for them not to be around.

    I'm pretty simple.

If they can find good ways to include scions without turning them into cardboard cutout version of themselves + isn't around only to fill out trust slots, sure. Go ahead and keep 'em in next stories.

If they can't do that, then I'd like to see WoL do their own thing, or find new cast to fill the roster.

I’d rather have poorly written scions over ending up with a new team of Wuk Lamats. Have little trust in present writers to replace them.

I also like most of them.
