Finally got around to doing Underkeep last night and I think this might be where I finally just stop playing. I literally had to force quit out of the game when I was expected to immediately do the trial afterward (couldn't anyway bc ilvl, but it left me zoomed in on the bright flashing summoning circle) because the resulting migraine and nausea were so bad I couldn't stay in my chair. I had to turn all the lights in my room off, lie down, and wait for the episode to pass. I can't go back in there to farm it, so it's going to take forever to get the gear to do the trial, which is likely going to be just as dangerous for me to do.

The overwhelm is so bad now, I dread doing any kind of group content.I fudged Heritage Found by keeping the camera pointed at the ground or just skipping the area when I could, but dungeons and trials (godsdamn I hate trials so much) are mandatory and require me to somehow look in every direction at once with everything strobing in a demand for attention, even with other players' effect off. I got violently sick trying to farm Vanguard (the point where EW's augment gear needs upgrading) a few months ago and can't go in there anymore. Basically, anything lightning themed from this expansion is the biggest trigger. I don't know what to do anymore.

I have trouble this tier due to all the flashing and colors, it's hard to concentrate. For example, during the M5S part where we have to go in and out constantly, i just lose focus and sometimes die because, with all the flashing and colors, i lose track of what is what.

it's also impossible to play and see anyone else's spell effects so i have to turn them off, which sucks.

Exactly this. It's been painful, especially with someone with epilepsy.

The trials are my worst problem because there's no way round inconveniencing other people. In DT I have simply got into the habit of apologizing at load-in that I will not be able to look at my screen for significant portions of the fight, and will thus likely die.

    Vive la résistance!

Finalement, Boucles d'or goûta le porridge dans le bol de Bébé Ours. "Miam Miam, ce porridge est parfait!" dit-elle, et elle mangea le bol entier de porridge.

to be fair I just feel it isn't going to get better I personally don't mind them but sometime I just feel there is to much of it. like some move to have them sure thing but that much I don't know it doesn't add to much to the fight in itself other then flash. or maybe it's the new mech try to not be blinded to see what the boss will do?

I wonder if this isn't why I struggled with EX4. By the time I was hitting bloom 4, I was just 'tuning out' all visual queues. It became impossible to 'see' the near far markers. It's like they were invisible.
I do find them fights 'intensely' visually 'overwhelming'. I can feel myself tunning everything out and going fight blind, after about 45 minutes.
I assumed it was just I was new to Exs and found it stressful.
Ex3 made me start grinding my teeth, and I've only just many months later mostly but not totally stopped. (I dont think Ex3 was very flashy. I found platforms scary. Gave me vertigo. Not kidding. Or maybe it was flashy and I was tunning it out.)
Also far too much is tuned for colour blind.
So many pink/purple/pink/purple. I can think of so many fights.
It is really hard to 'appreciate' if you are not tuned/trained to it because your not color blind.
    Why is it this way?
Because XIV development is tuned to the absolute minimum effort/work possible.
Why design it in full color and implement 'proper' color blind accessibility and contrast features. When you can just quietly drop those features and design everything to be 'color blind compatible and high contras in the first place.
SE don't get any benefit of the doubt anymore. It's all about the most efficient least effort possible.
I remember that from thread from a while back
Something like "blizzard games are developed with HR in room. Square Enix games are developed with accountants in the room"

I use full effects in self only. Limited on party.

But it's not going to change.

What ever happened to amazing fight design like Alpha 3.0 normal.
    SB alliance raids.
    These weren't boring.
    They weren't overly flashy.
I blame the paladin changes. That's when am the other jobs needed to do have over the top animations.
I also blame add-ons. Those were probably the inspiration for paladin.

EX4 is particularly bad with the bright flashing. Someone suggested the colorblind accessibility filters and the Deuteranopia setting helped desaturate EX4 enough so that I could play it without having to take drastic measures during certain casts. SE also adjusted the ground rose effects so they are much easier to read. It's all still too flashy but at least with the colorblind filter it doesn't go so far to make me sick.
