I think when they started adding big capstone nukes in ShB and onward, in their need for each expansion job trailer to be flashier than the last one, the devs progressively forgot a cardinal rule which is "less is more". There is a certain art into creating moderate, but creative and engaging visual effects.
I second this. I'm mildly light sensitive and the flashing lights can get really unpleasant to look at when doing the fight for any extended period of time. And having it as an OPTION that people can choose harms literally nobody.
Looking at us SMN 6.0+I think when they started adding big capstone nukes in ShB and onward, in their need for each expansion job trailer to be flashier than the last one, the devs progressively forgot a cardinal rule which is "less is more". People often joke about the pet size but IMHO that’s not quite the entire issue. Don’t even need to be in their burst windows. The flashes, bloom, and brightness of Ifrit & Titan VFXes are bad enough that they singlehandedly able to cover everything else, and it’s not even a layered VFX like RDM’s LB3.
Recently as well, by Dawntrail launch many other jobs are joining the “launch satellite beams”-groups that happens every 2m window. Less obnoxious compared to SMN by far but still aggravating enough.
EDIT: Yes they can be turned off. I do however think that they should not design these effects around the assumption that players will just turn effects off. That oughta kill the purpose of having these effects to begin with.

When I think I actually raided with full effects and visuals back in Stormblood without breaking a sweat... Now I even put light party effects to limited if I want to actually see anything, in encounters that are literally all about seeing anything.
You can turn skill effects down. I'm sure there's other settings you could also tweak.

Yeah I used to go really hard on extremes and such in Endwalker but when I did Valigarmanda around DT launch I instantly noticed this was not going to be a good fight to farm, Zoraal Ja was the same and it just kept getting worse every fight, hopefully we can reach them to at least give us options to fight it.Whats up with that gif astronema posted, what a dingleberry.
I am autistic too.
Also, now that you mentioned it OP, this might be why i am not enjoying the harder encounters this expansion. I miss fun fights that weren't sensory overload like titan savage, not whatever the hell zoraal ja extreme is.
Be kind, always! ^-^
